WOW!!!!!!!!!!
Think Kaya’s impressed enough to -not- try to ‘help’? 😉
At this point, I’m more concerned that she’ll start cheering him on, thereby distracting him at a critical moment.
May the 4th be with you all, and you jin XD. Cant forget robin, the legend.
Yeah 😀
The moves are fast and fluid
as the guardian takes the strain;
taking tips from the one behind,
looking to bring the pain.
The ‘mom’ guides her ‘big little guy’
and counters all the threats;
her eyes at the back of his head
are the best advantage he’ll get.
The synchronicity is shown
as the first attacker is thrown.
Now the rest of seek to move;
Jin only has his power to prove…
Missed a word out.

Even with the missing word, it was already a great poem xD
Incredible action shot, Robin! Congrats on hitting 300 pages!
(So is Jin channeling Katsumi’s spirit, or is Katsumi taking control of Jin in order to protect him?)
Thank you 😀
We will have to wait and see if that mystery ever gets solved. I’m not telling xD
Kathrewme!
Gesundheit.
Katsumi sure did :p
THIS IS SPARTA!!!
Or at least Jin’s dojo :p

Actually, Jin Nakamura :p
The synchronicity between Jin’s movements and Katsumi’s is absolutely beautiful to see. And Jin’s mood is just so… zen. He’s not one of those raging warriors (which is good, because that would probably look awkward with his posture), he’s at peace with his movements. And there’s no anger in his composure because he knows this is just practice, and none of these people have anything against him, personally.
Not that I expect angering him would affect his peaceable movements, but his expression would have a good reason to change.
Gets me thinking of the You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry trope.
“Mr. McGee, don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”
Him being a raging warrior would probably look way too cute to be perceived as any threat xD
Cute rampaging Jin. That’s in my head now.
I ship Kai and Benji.
You must go through a lot of packing peanuts.
Nah just alot of weed and vodka.
Dad?
Good to know xD
Karate Kid: The Improved Edition
Epicness overdose! 😀
It seems Jin’s spirit companion expands his perception. At least, that’s the way it seems to me
I don’t think this is just perception.
I’m fascinated now to see how the connection these two have is effecting them.
Jin is the calm in the middle of the storm
((Just want to point out, looks like the bottom of the brown belts Gi is white instead of black in panel 1))
Daniel here. Looks like I was mostly right last week – Jin seems to be the calm centre of the storm so far, but that looks like a decent throw, further than just using the attacker’s momentum would normally allow. We never got any indication of whether or not Jin had heightened strength from being a Hybrid like our Dragon twins. I… don’t think I would bet against heightened strength in that little body…
Oh, and that Katsumi is indeed acting as an additional pair of eyes, looks like I guessed right on that one too… 😋
I would reckon that Jin being so much smaller than his opponent, coupled with change on stance, would throw off his opponent’s centre of gravity, leading to a more powerful throw (although enhanced strength, if he had it, wouldn’t hurt)
True, the size difference along with the stance shift are features regularly used by Martial Arts to help throw your opponent. But from what I’ve seen from Martial Arts and from actually throwing people who were attacking me (bullies think I’m a soft target, all too often I had to prove them wrong), most thrown bodies don’t travel very far. Martial Arts throws typically are flips, landing the opponent by your feet, I had them land around half a meter away…
This throw though? This unlucky guy appears to be airborne, while motion lines seem to indicate he’s moving away from Jin who has released his grip. Looks to me like 1 of the other opponents is about to have their catching abilities tested…
Good point, but seeing as Jin also used his back arm in part of the throw and used his whole body (judging by this pose) that could have a big effect on the strength of the throw. When you get up to the higher grades (in Go-Ju Ryu at least) you learn how even the smallest of movements can have the biggest effects. The difference between a grab and a basic throw can be as little as turning your leading foot by 45 degrees and letting go.
Going by the angle of the throw I’d say he’s putting the brown belt between himself and the black belt. That’s a good strategy, assuming that in this dojo red is higher than black, because that allows Jin to focus on the more dangerous/skilled opponent before taking care of any opponents that remain (assuming that throw doesn’t yeet the brown belt into the black belt, knocking them both out)
I think i know now what Katsumi is really . I wait the next strip about this , but i’m practically sure
Teamwork toss! Which will probably impress the others all the more because Jin barely grabbed his hand while he had a fistful of Jin’s outfit. Jin’s also tossing him with gusto from what looks like a light grab too which should make the others a bit more cautious.
Judging by the first panel and the fact that he’s trying to pin someone significantly shorter than him, there was definitely some forward and downward momentum. Just need a fulcrum to force some rotation and he’d flip easy.
This explanation is exactly why the doctors doesn’t consider this proof of Katsumi existence.
Personally, I think Katsumi DID something.
First rule of Japanese characters: never assume the little one is helpless on their own. Katsumi having seen the guy coming at Jin from behind him is proof enough for me, but there’s nothing in that throw that Jin couldn’t have done himself.
Sorry hkmaly, but I’m a scientist at heart, not a martial artist. Admittedly something like katsumi would be very difficult to prove since most of science is observation. Though to be fair it is technically correct that Jin’s spatial awareness and motor control are likely enhanced by his hybrid traits.
You can’t really tell what happened from the image.
Daniel here. As someone who has been through more than my fair share of fights unfortunately, and from what we can see, it looks to me like Katsumi provided additional awareness – either telling or letting Jin “sense” the attacker through her own eyes. The fact they moved in unison tells me they are most likely are connected, Katsumi directly acting as a second pair of eyes, maybe even additional “muscle memory” too …
So… would that make Katsumi kind of like a Daemon?
((Going on what I know of Daemons by osmosis from my friends who are more into this kind of thing))
More mentally linked, sharing sensory information, but also some movements. And by additional muscle memory, I mean Jin obviously knows what to do, and if they train like this regularly Katsumi would know too, so both would instinctively know how to move in this situation requiring less thought to perform the actions needed, improving speed and potentially awareness too…
Cant help but wonder if that guh with the rap pic for a profile pick that makes impressive haikus is a IRL friend of yours.

Are the attackers going to attack one at a time? Like bad guys in the movies? Shouldn’t they all jump on Jin at once?
Honour is a big thing in martial arts so attacking at the same time would be regarded as dishonorable, and as such not generally done. Also, piling all in on one target would increase the risk of hitting/getting hit by someone other than the intended target.
I think this type of exercise is more of an endurance test, Jin has to last five minutes but only needs to handle them one at a time, where the others just need to keep the pressure on until he slips up and they pin him
Let’s see, what conclusions can I draw? The way Jin and Katsumi move in unison, there must be some telepathic link. I can’t tell whether Jin controls Katsumi’s motions, or Katsumi controls Jin’s, or Katsumi is a part of Jin.
Katsumi isn’t shown acting directly on the opponent, but he definitely gets thrown farther than what would normally be possible. Throwing someone by using their own momentum, it’s not possible to throw them farther than they could jump on their own, and the guy wasn’t sprinting like a long-jumper. We know that the twins are superhumanly strong, so Jin might also be. Otherwise Katsumi must have accelerated the guy somehow.
Epppicccc gaaammeeeerrr
Hmmm, I would say they are less two separate entities and more likely one with two bodies or very nearly so.
My guess on how this is all working is that Jin and Katsumi have a sort of mirrored bond. Like, when moving in synch, Katsumi is able to heighten Jin’s reflexes and increase the strength of his muscles and stance. Without being able to observe Katsumi directly, however, it wouldn’t come off as particularly abnormal for a hybrid, esp. a mythical hybrid.
I suppose a way to test my theory would be to set up a system of scales and have Jin get Katsumi to stand on them. Then, do this whole dojo routine again. There might be distinct pressure readings where Katsumi’s feet are as some of the strain Jin’s muscles would’ve taken is transferred to Katsumi.
You may be on to something there, in world.
Replace the mat with a pressure mat, at least where Jin and Katsumi stand. Regardless of skill, any force exerted in one place must eventually end up being transmitted to the floor.
Katsumi’s footprints might show up. If there is missing force, that would show something.
Worst case the force flows entirely through Jin.
He getting help with some kind of mind-link? or they just in good sync? Cuz if he’s being puppeted or told what to do, that’s cheating. 🙂
Not when your life is on the line; and this is practice for when that happens. 🙂
Looking forward to Jin and Katsumi recruiting customers for the diner. “You WILL eat at this diner and you WILL enjoy it!” :~)
Does robin even read the comments anymore?
Yes, he does, and he usually still replies to the first few. But being as his personal situation has not been the greatest, he’s not exactly free enough to go through every one that has been posted at the time of his responses, and only a terrible person would consider him to be at fault for that.
oh no I don’t expect him to I was just wondering
Yep, he was responding to some of the comments from last week.
Yes, I do 😀
You can be sure I read every one of them. These last months have been a lot of ups and downs for me, though, so my motivation to actually reply to all the comments I’m getting isn’t always there. Not because I don’t want to, but because I’ve used up my motivation for the day. Mental issues are complicated and weird xD
yeah I completely understand
I read this entire comic in like an hour. I lost the comic due to my account being lost and I found it today! this comic is amazing and thank you for making it!
it took me 2 days to re read the whole thing of this because i had school
Huh… It doesn’t look like Jin actually did any throwing. Aside from spreading his legs, he’s in basically the same pose he was in just while touching the man’s hand. o.O
A lot of martial arts don’t actually use force to throw someone. Rather, they use the force that the opponent already has in his attack, and redirect it. Lowering your stance and guiding the attacking hand to the ground destroys someone’s balance, more often than not. ^^
correct, although forse is used, relying on force or speed alone means that eventually the whole range of stronger or faster opponents will always win. And while that might not seem fair, martial arts spring from real combat, where losing equals death to self and family (or girls into slavery and boys slaughtered). No ribbon for second place, so lots of training to learn best use of force.
sorry son, but in this world it’s yeet or get yeeted
“Yeet or be yeeten?” LOL I like your idea!
Jin need to find a friend(or at least someone that won’t bully him) that can see(or feel the presence of) Katsumi. Another spiritually connected hybrid would be farfetched, since they are supposed to be very uncommon, but would be the easiest solution.
I’m not sure it would be that far-fetched. People tend to socialize with others like themselves. Also, it seems likely to me that another spiritually connected hybrid would likely want to go to Hybrid City and get hooked up by Reiniger-Sensei.
Now, if Jin just *happened* to be at the doctor’s office when the new mythical hybrid shows up, *that* would be pretty far-fetched, especially if Kai and Kaya are also there so we all get to see them all meeting each other. I feel like it’d be much more likely for the doctor to have to arrange a second visit where the two would meet. Or, possibly, arrange for a regular social meetup outside of the hospital.
Having mentioned that, it seems like something that we may be on the way to having happen.
So…Jin and Katsumi are drift-compatible?
Cue the Pacific Rim soundtrack…
she be like whatever.
Aikido! Well done Author Robin!
Are you a practitioner?
Attack appears to be katatori
Uke: attacker -or- “he who is about to be thrown”
Nage: defender -or- “he who is throwing”
Attack: ushiro katetori
from behind, shoulder grab
Uke tries to grab Nage by one shourlder from behind
throw:
probably kaiten-nage (rotary throw) or irimi-nage (entering throw)
Nage makes contact with the back of Uke’s hand, firm grip is not necessary.
Often Nage places his hand palm down on Nage’s hand, pinning it to Nage’s shoulder -or- grasps Nage’s wrist.
Nage “bows forward” using Uke’s forward momentum to cause him to be thrown diagonally forward.
Strength is not needed, rather timing and and “flowing ” with the opponent.
often such throws need only minimal “grabbing” or holding by
