So we finally meet the bat sibs. Going by hair/fur color, I’m assuming they’re different “species” of bat. They look cool though.
Free food is always a great incentive, assuming it’s from someone your know.
Each one is based on a different bat species. Jenny’s species has incredibly large ears, even for bats xD
They’re professional pests
in the name of justice.
Being good takes practice
but comes easy to some.
The family gathers
to offload their vile catch.
Now they just have to match
what they’re going to eat.
They’ve earned their feed today,
striking from the shadows.
Respect for Nate here grows
as we see his plans play.
Professional pests. Nice 😀
That goes on their business cards xD
Heh. Perhaps ‘Some rat guy’ could suggest it to them in universe? (Off-screen)
A nice meal for a job well done is a great reward. And Nate taking over Rex’s shift once they’re done eating is appropriate.
Hmmm, I wonder if Nate’s aware that only Larissa got escorted out and not Dinah, he started walking away before security arrived. Not that I would worry too much about Dinah by herself, not unless she tries something really radical and dumb, like trying to chuck a full trash bin into the food truck.
Trixy is 16 too, same as Rex then in being among some of the first hybrids born.
Yup! First year hybrids 😀
They get all the joy of being the first to test out everything for hybrids xD
I take it that Trixy and Rexie are more used to being poked and prodded a bit more in their physicals than the younger Hybrids then, what with the examinations for being the first year of Hybrid generation # 1 and all.
Up to this comment I thought Clem and Zekey where a bit older than 16 (at least 19). But given there are no hybrids that old I guess there both 16, too.
Nasty idea. One of the witches is still active. How thoroughly will Nate dispose of the jar of rotten fish heads. What if she retrieves it.
Don’t worry, Dinah’s revenge plan is probably like this:
1. Get tasty food
2. ?
3. Report to Larissa
Nah, Dinah will just wander over and get an order ravioli and sauce that she finds is off the charts. Just imagine how Lala will react when she finds out what how little Dinah did in the revenge portfolio.
So now we have twins who are both dragons and siblings who are all bats. I wonder if this hybrid thing applies to all children from the same parents being the same species or so…. or if I am just reading too much into this.
It is more common for hybrid siblings to be of the same species, BUT it can be different species or even hybrid followed by human sibling as well. I actually checked with someone that knows a little about genes and this has something to do with recessive genes, as far as I understood.
Daniel here. Thanks for this info, brain came up with some OCs for this webcomic universe, including a family with a “Demon” mythical Hybrid, normal Human then a tigress Hybrid. Only catch was I wasn’t sure if it could happen in canon, but seems like it could. And if not normally, I can always use the “he’s not actually your genetic Father” card to explain the Demon Hybrid…
If I had the money, I’d be tempted to use Patreon to have them snuck into the comic 😋, but unfortunately that is not something I can do right now…
Huh, can’t believe I actually called it
Good to know that. I asked the same thing a few a few comics back. Was curious how the hybrid idea worked in this comic. 🙂
Seeing as we often see siblings who are the same form of hybrids. Like Dragons and bats.
First : the bats are at the restaurant , with Rex around ? 0_o
Second : do we have to understand that they does such trick often ? ^_^”
First: Yes, indeed 😀
Second: They are little entrepreneurs, but they are also chaotic neutral in nature xD Yes, they do stuff like this on the regular.
They’re definitely related to Nate, alright!
Well, Bats do have some of the best ears in the world, they can pick frequencies much higher than most other animals.
Bonus fact, Cats can actually her sounds at several decibels higher than Dogs can.
Not sure how well they can hear when it comes to chores, though xD
Be interesting if they have functional sonar.
I hear some blind humans have learned to do echolocation. I’m sure it’s nowhere near as good as what bats can do. Sighted people normally have little motivation to learn it. The bat brats should be able to do it at least as well as normal humans if they were motivated to work on it.
I’ve seen videos of blind people not only walking around without their tappy stick thing no problem, but actually describing what’s around them! Just the shapes of course, no colours. Tongue clicking for the pros, hand clicker for the learning ones. I can see these 3 learning how to do that if they wanna…
Daniel here. I know it’s a bit late to reply, but I’ve been thinking about Human echolocation lately, so I did some Google-Fu. It turns out that it’s not only an actual thing, but it’s surprisingly well researched. Some people passively use background noise while others actively tap their cane, click their tongues or make sound in other ways to work from. And it’s not just blind people who do it, people with fully functioning eyes can learn to do it as well. The main problem getting in their way is the fact they instinctively rely on their sight to work out what’s around them…

Decibel is a measure of how loud a sound is. A sound so loud that you can’t hear it would be one that breaks your eardrums. Ergo, you’re saying that cat ears can endure booms that destroy dog ears.
I’m pretty sure Ben was thinking of frequencies, not volumes.
I suspect so too, but frequency is measured in hertz. Decibel does not indicate frequency in any way.
Easy enough mistake to make when you’re not actually involved in the study of either.
The bats look awesome.
So, totally unimportant question, but… I don’t think we’ve heard Nate’s last name. Are these cousins from an uncle on his father’s side? Is he Nate Hamilton? Because that would be a perfectly good reason for him to insist on going by McThunderpants.
Thanks 😀
Nate’s last name hasn’t come up yet. It’s yet to be disclosed :p
Ah. So he IS embarrassed about his legal name, thus his always introducing himself by McThunderpants. I’ve seen this before.
My money’s on donnerbritches. Not likely, but it’s been in my head ever since he introduced himself
Nana-nana-nana-nana-na – Bat Brats!
(Tune in next time – the worst is yet to come!)
Their theme song xD
Same bat time, same bat comic!
Charon. Wipe your damn face.
That’s a bandage.
Those are bandaids xD
Those have gotta hurt coming off considering she’s covered in fur.
*he’s* that’s a first for autocorrupt
Okay, so I love them… they are adorable and full of character
Thanks 😀
Alt-text: The “b” in “batcave” should be capitalized.
Because it’s a place. Of course 😀
Because it’s a -“proper name”- for a place. Kinda like “Antwerpen”. 😉
The bat brats looks awesome, and I love the markings on Jenny’s ears and face ^^
Thanks 😀 She does them herself ^^
Bat Brats!
Bat Brats~
When the theme sing?
“There room is NOT the Batcave, no matter how many times Charon says it!.
Do they at least hang upside down by their feet from time to time?
The Bat Brats gang is back together! They have accomplished they’re mission with flying colors, though I’m not sure whether Charon’s crash landing into Larissa’s set of evil, psychopathic boobs was 100% planned as the distraction… I’m not sure if Charon is as predictable or less than Kaya is, and that’s saying something given how unpredictable she is. Speaking of which, they should probably discuss the fish heads a little quieter, I don’t know how Dragon Hybrid hearing compared to Bat or Dog Hybrid hearing but Nate probably wants to tell the group himself rather than having them overhear him. By the way, keep an eye on the baby bat, he may run over to say hi to Rex before wolf-dog-boy is ready for him!
Considering I was hanging upside down when young (not by my feet but still), definitely. The real question is how comfortable it is for them.
Jesse’s Adventure:
1) The magic coffee is likely as good as you can imagine. But even not counting being distracted, I suspect you need some knowledge to imagine good coffee.
2) If they were returned LITERALLY as they were before coming there they wouldn’t remember it, but this kind of glance over the fact memories are changes of bodies is common. And there ARE ways to explain it if we want something more scientific than “it’s magic”. Like, those may not be their actual bodies, but the bodies are SOMEWHERE and are doing the memory forming.
I’m less sure of scientific explanation capable of explaining it if they really DID spend 15 years there and their bodies wouldn’t change during the time, but it would definitely be preferable to them changing. Guess it would involve specific memory transfer?
Cue the logo quick zoom in and out with the spinning background…
There are a lot of very cute characters in this comic, including the bats. I’m kinda surprised that there isn’t more…”fanart” of it on a certain site.
For Jesse’s Adventure, I’m wondering where that coffee is going to splash. I get the feeling somebody’s going to get some wet hair sometime later; I’m wondering who and when.
I just noticed that Nate referred to it as “the” plan… So was it his, theirs, or a group effort? 🙂
It seems like those “wing” growths on their arms would make it uncomfortable for them to rest their elbows on the table.
It looks like there’s a smokescreen in the background in the third panel. I guess it’s meant to represent a crowd.
I’m pretty sure it’s the edge of the giant thought bubble depicting the flashback.
That’s the fifth panel. There is no flashback in the third panel.
Yes, THAT one is the edge of the crowd. You can see it’s behind the barrier surrounding Due Draghi’s dining area.
Ooh, that panel! I didn’t notice that.
Is Jenny the first one that we saw? I assumed that she was full human with shorter hair.
Wonder if Trixy was one of the first Hybrids born.
Statistically speaking there should be somewhere around 3500 first generation hybrids in the US. She definitely wasn’t the first (we see that one on page one) no telling which number she (or even rex) is without knowing all those birthdates.
You’re thinking of “first-year”, not “first-generation”. Every hybrid in the series is a first-generation hybrid; no hybrids have had kids yet.
Thanks, you got me there. I was thinking along the lines of preteen/teen/adult lines. Probably doesn’t help that my little brother is technically a member of the generation after mine (we were born very close to the dividing line)
Interesting markings on Jenny. I assume that’s some sort of dye/cosmetic?
For those a good deal older than me, “Bat Pack” might be a group name. Sinatra reference.
Unfortunately the bat pack’s musical carrier was short lived when it was learned that their singing was out of the range of most human and hybrid hearing. Dogs seem to love them though
Dolphins also enjoyed their music. Cats (and a certain Wolf-boy/doggie) didn’t give any positive reviews, however… Except maybe one Cat Hybrid in France… Cats are standoffish like that.
