Huh, bit closer than I rhought with my comment on last week’s comic. But I makes sense All would do that given his obsession with winning his title back. And hey pretty cool first job he’s got lined up.
Training in medieval style
has tightened up his act.
He’s learned pace and grace
and might even have some tact.
He accepts his victory with grace,
owing much of it to Kaya.
He started off as a louse
but now might just be a flyer!
Obsessed are the knights
of chivalry and old;
might Kaya be no herald
but his princess foretold?
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
From the panels, at least he looks humble about his victory, and not all in Kaya’s face about it. So, Al’s for a job lined up when he gets older, that’s cool.
Also, Renaissance faire, huh? I’d love to go to one someday.
They’re a lot of fun! There’s one in Holly, Michigan that runs from August to early October that I like to go to. Each weekend has its own “theme” (pirates, Scottish games, etc).
That’s some really good stomping by Kaya. It’s not easy to stomp effectively on sand. 🙂
Eh, it’s not that hard once you know how. Essentially you have to march like a soldier. Try to move your feet the wrong way on sand and you’ll loose momentum and/or balance as the sand shifts beneath your feet. Running well is a bit harder, you have to dig your feet in a bit to make sure you have the material to push against….
Growing up, Dad took the family to the beach a lot. We’d play while he set up the surfcat racing catamaran, once we were old enough he’d take us out with him, get the surfcat up on 1 hull with the other (and us on it!) up in the air…
Good times….
This explains the upgrade from broomsticks (used in the flashback) to proper lances
Surprised he wasn’t able to arrange a horse to use.
I think that using human steeds is part of the game. A real horse would be dangerously fast.
Omg Kaya in panel 7… i just wanna reach out and give em a squeeze…
I SERIOUSLY hope you mean her cheeks?
Nope. :p
Don’t feed the trolls. Kinda surprised Robin hasn’t banned them.
Alless being a little obsessive is an understatement.
Kaya took her defeat with grace, she’s matured quite a bit. I guess this means she’s gonna train hard to win back her crown for the next visit. I’m glad to see that Allessandro was able to get something colour of his obsession, namely getting his first job set up for him. I wonder what Kai is up to off panel… Flirting with Near? Maybe he can go on a double date with Near while Kaya and Allessandro join them?
I get the feeling Kaya won’t really care so much about the title; it’s just for funsies, and she probably knows that if she took it more seriously, she could probably hurt her Ally…pun fully intended.
I have to respect the drive that helps someone improve themselves. Allessandro’s drive to beat Kaya helped him grow from a weak chubby kid into a strong young man.
Hail to the King
Hail to the one
Kneel to the crown
Stand in the sun
Hail to the King
(Hail, hail, hail)
(The King)
Sorry, had to 😋. I felt the chorus would be appropriate. Maybe not the rest of the song, but definitely the chorus… 😋
What? I’m allowed to do things like that. Screwball isn’t the only one that can be silly at times… 😜🤣
Dang it! You beat me to the Avenged Sevenfold reference! Good choice.
I think his new job won’t be riding the horses, but cleaning up after them.
From what I understand, that’s where you start at most places that do horsemanship stuff. Whether it’s a Ren-Fair tourist attraction, a racing track, a rodeo company…It’s the traditional “bottom” of the job pile.
There was a comment complaining about chainmail vs plate. Plate armor is VERY expensive, most would not have it. Plus, true jousting is so dangerous that mail is useless. However, jousting armor is so heavy that I don’t think the knight can even walk wearing it, it’s essentially useless for any other purpose.
So at a renaissance fair, doubt anyone would have real armor. Possibly fake armor that looks like real jousting armor. The rules would likely prevent most injuries, as here. Maybe modified lances, I don’t know.
At a renaissance fair, I doubt anyone would have real joust.
It is too dangerous (for human and horse) unless the fight is scripted.
Yes, even semi paranoid precautions failed to prevent multiple kings dying or maimed or mentally damaged. To say nothing of lesser players.
The deadliest tourney I know of was in Neuss in 1241 with sixty dead fighters. Though I don’t know how many died in combat and how many because of the heat.
I often say that it doesn’t really matter what drives motivation, especially when it comes to learning new skills. People who tried making their own versions of FNAF models can use the 3D modelling skills they learned for other purposes, for example. 😉
And, well… some of us are just the type to hyperfocus. 😅 ADHD and whatnot. Which, can have its advantages in the way it drives people to accomplish things that other people might not. 😉
I really like panels 2, 3, and 4. The tension build-up, and then sudden -happy- release are great. Panel 3 is my favorite. That stare from Kaya… 🙂
Is the next to last panel all in Allessandro’s head? That girl is awful cute and looking shyly up to him… 🙂
I agree with whoever predicted Al has a job cleaning horse talls waiting for him!
Welp, I was wrong about the exact mood, but I did call the graceful loss. Good on Kaya.
Archive binge over, all caught up. Glad I found this
What species of snake is Cleo?
and now i´m picturing kaya at the ren fair, playing the part of the dragon 😉
