Ugh. I can’t read “You know what that means,” without hearing Javert singing the line.
Haha!
Well, she doesn’t have a bald patch so it can’t be too bad.
That probably wouldn’t have lasted since last summer (unlike the grudge).
The look an attitude of this kid (not sure that’s a girl) reminds me of the fish-head-witch, too.
Larissa’s Italian cousin??
He only seems to be an overly competitive guy with a wounded pride, not a bully.
And the choice of the beach means the competition will be in a beach, or aquatic, activity.
And -Public-. So; likely, no shenanigans. 🙂 Possibly even -friendly- competitiveness, and he’s not -really- being antagonistic on purpose? 🙂
One vs one volleyball maybe?
Sic ’em, Nonna! 🙂
Yup, seems like an old local bully/rival to me…
Go, nonna!
It seems he’s not too much of a bully since Kaya gave him a pastry. Anyone who would voluntarily give half of your pastries to a despicable bully, raise a hand.
Bianca doesn’t like him enough to give him free pastries though.
I guess I have to raise my hand, then.
You know the old saying, if someone hits your cheek, offer them the other one, it confuses the heck out of them. That said, back when I did this, I hadn’t heard that one. It’s possible that somebody explained that one to me as a debrief for this tale.
Back when I was a cute little well-behaved kid, I also knew a store owner who was happy to see me. My family had moved away the year before, so it had been a while since we were there. My parents visited the store to make a purchase. This store’s primary business wasn’t treats, but the owner’s wife made some treats which were sold at the counter as an impulse buy. I can’t remember exactly what they were, but I think it was some kind of homemade hard candy. She gave me two of them for free, which kind of shocked me.
One of the local bullies showed up and started talking about having a score to settle with me. They had been upset with me originally because I totally blew the curve in first grade and most of second grade. But I was out of their class, so it didn’t seem like they had any reason to be upset with me. I offered them the hard candy. Surprised, they took it and thanked me. Then they resumed the tough guy routine and told me where to meet them to settle the score. The’ store owners wife then promptly charged them for the candy.
The explanation she gave was, she was willing to let them have it for free if they’d accepted it as a peace offering. But since they weren’t doing that, she wasn’t going to let them walk all over me, regardless of what I thought about it.
To be clear, there had been no possible future where I’d have actually gone wherever they said to settle said score. I couldn’t have even if I’d wanted to. We were all packed up to return home, and this was the last stop before doing that.
I don’t know if Bianca’s reasoning is the same or not, but I do note that she gave the kid long enough for them to continue their unpleasantness and they took it before she got involved, just like with my encounter.
The turn the other cheek proverb was about being backhanded. The idea was you were so far below the slapper that you weren’t worth hitting with the palm, so they use the back of the hand. Turning the other cheek is presenting your face so they’d have to challenge you on their own level
He only seems to be an overly competitive guy with a wounded pride, not a bully.
And the choice of the beach means the competition will be in a beach, or aquatic, challenge (that Kaya doesn’t consider important at all).
The others seem to consider him more annoying than a danger.
Pokemon battle time? Got some kind of score to settle with Kaya. And of course she doesn’t seem all that concerned about it so I doubt it’s anything serious.
Kaya was born with armor plating and a built-in ranged weapon. She probably doesn’t have to fear much.
Don’t forget heat/fire resistant which means she can also burn people by touching them and a professional trip hazard. She literally has nothing to fear from this man
It will probably be some beach, or aquatic, challenge. From marble races to swimming.
Looks like I was right about the mysterious person from last time being a rival, though he may still have a crush on Kaya. I wonder what his name is and how he met Kaya… And what does he want to compete in against Kaya? Swimming? Dance off? Singing?
Like Kaya, he seems to be easily distracted by food, at least briefly. Judging from Annabella and Nonna Bianca’s reaction to him, he must be quite the annoyance. She even charged him for the free pastry Kaya gave him! He must not be that popular or skilled. Kaya doesn’t even seem to take him seriously as a challenge!
So Kaya’s got another one?
Another foe to spoil her fun?
Or is a friendly rivalry back on?
At the beach, under the sun?
An easily distracted old foe,
here to keep her on the go?
The Dragon vs the Italian Swan.
Is the ‘fight’ here all for show?
The swords are crossed
The invite’s embossed
It’s time to see Kaya’s legend shone?
Let’s see this foe get tossed…
Bro, you’re a GOD!
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
I mean every word, you’ve been doing this for years, and we are grateful.
Translation, please?
thank you very much
At the beach…? Swimming challenge?
For some reason I immediately thought it was surfing. Swimming, fishing or small sailboats would probably be more likely.
Now I’m imagining Kaya with two surfboards; one normal one, and a smaller one strapped to her tail.
… is it strange that its first NOW I realize how large the twin’s heads are compared to Human heads? 😮
Last panel: Notice how much Kaya -in general- stands out from the background and other characters? It’s visible in all panels, but shows best in the last panel. 🙂
Panel 7: Drop the apostrophe from “euro’s”.
I thought I would mention this one more time then I won’t bring it up again. We would love to have you involved though. 😀
HEY Folks, Not sure if anyone will object to me posting this here but I am currently running an interactive story telling site that is based loosely off of Twin Dragons and a now defunct site that was known as Furry City or Los Gatos. https://rpol.net/game.php?gi=79064&date=1729970750. If you wou look d like to create a character and join the story come on by. The full setting and rules are described on the page but they are not complicated. A word of warning, the setting is listed as Adult but that is because of some situations that could occure and not because sexual content (I have a fade to black rule in effect.)
So, maybe this got asked before, but whose Nonna is this? Is it Annabel’s, or is she a great-grandma to all of them? Or is it a case of she’s everyone’s “Nonna”? I doubt the last one, since she is obviously not “Nonna” to new kid.
It’s not entirely clear, but I get the impression that Bianca calls her shop “Nonna Bianca” or something like that. She’s an actual grandmother only to the grandkids she mentioned on the previous page.
It hasn’t been clarified, but I personally think it’s the name of the store, she’s likely a grandma herself and there’s more than one mom’n’pop shop in my town with similar names. “Come down for some of Gramma D’s home cooking” kind of thing
Please don’t be the new Larissa…
Sounds to me like there’s something they have sometimes competed in. They take it way more seriously than Kaya does, but Kaya’s natural strength makes her more than a match.
Given current conversion rate, $2.16 for one pastry. Very high.
He got the tourist price that Nonna did not charge Kaya. 🙂
