Our sweet Hazel finds an Italian froth
as the building stresses the chef right out;
the things she’d learn around the door today
are nothing she should go and shout about.
Kaya’s never heard her folks go like this,
opening up the full profanisaurus;
they don’t want her learning those bad words
and will ground her if she joins in the chorus.
The ears waggle as she sees the camera;
our Kaya loves her own little bit of fame;
Hazel continues to get in with the group –
maybe she’ll be asked to join Benji’s game?
Hazel’s not big on the whole tabletop things, so not a big chance of her wanting to join Benji’s game :p
Should never stop them asking. Possibly spin it as ‘documentary into RP’ing’?
Kaya, I’ve got a feeling those new Italian words aren’t the kind your dad wants you to learn. Just saying.
Orrrrr, they can swear together xD
Rule #1 of renovating: You do NOT wear your good clothes while doing it; especially not all-white clothes that will very easily get stained.
Actually that might be somewhere down the line. He’s also not wearing a mask/face protection and his long hair is exposed.
I think what I’m getting at is Marco really should have hired a professional to do this. 😛
He definitely should have, but he didn’t. Hell survive, no worries xD
Remodeling and yardwork: why you hang on to some old clothes that you don’t care if you get them dirty!
Yeah, he might be learning that the hard way :p
This is GREAT! I actually have a friend who only swears in Italian. She’s going to love this!
Oh, do tell me how she reacted xD
She’s out of the country right now, & I won’t be able to speak to her until next week. My best guess? She’ll laugh ’til tears start rolling down her face!
Jesse’s Adventure, panel 3: “I’ll just explain /to/ her.”
Ah, missed that one. Thanks ^^
This confirm my thoughts : parents are never the best teachers to their childs XD
Luckily for Kaya , it’s not french words : we’re very “imaged” in such angry language ^_^”
I wouldn’t say French to be an angry language though :p
Marco is the best teacher for them, she’s even learning new words even though she’s fluent in Italian already xD
Italian dragons.
Oh yeah, this is gonna work out well.
they’re fluent in Itallian, since their grandparents still live in Italy and they visit them every year :p
You need to have them do a school play where Kaya is Lucrezia Borgia and her brother is, of course, Cesare.
Then again, the Borgias were mostly Spanish……
Learning a new language is fun! XD
It is xD
At least it’s cleaner. Yellow is a hard choice to get right given the variety of ways it can go wrong with ageing. Not my choice but persevering with multiple attempts in the bathroom and kitchen and failing. It’s needing redone again and I’m hoping it won’t be yellow.
didn’t know yellow was such a hard color to preserve. Hope you can get a better color 😀
I recognize the angry noises meme, also I didnmt know that they had a strong hold on their italian heritage.
They at least are fluent in Italian ^^
Kaya’s learned some words
From her dad’s new cooking job
Too bad they’re curses
that, they are xD
Marco: “If I hear either of you using Italian swear words…they’d better be used in a grammatically correct manner!”
…what? At least it’s linguistic education that can be used with literature! It might not be acceptable in polite company but it could come in handy in college courses!
all i’m going to say, is mama mia in the corner. Also i like this comic.
Thanks ^^ glad you like it!
Ok, I have a follow up question. How Italian is Marco? His character bio says ‘Italian roots’, but how many generations?
Can he actually speak Italian, or does he use use a few phrases and expletives? Do the twins speak any other languages?
And I always love Kaya’s positive outlook.
Marco’s parents still live in Italy. They go and visit every year during the summer, so Kai and Kaya are fluent in Italian as well.
if You translate eat from English to Maori you’ll get kai

Oh? that’s a funny little thing to know xD
Oh poor Kaya. She’s so cute and innocent. xD Either way farewell to Pink Benji. I may save that page just to be amused with it. That and Benji as a poodle. Any time we change a character design, particularly the hairstyle, it can be either a total flop, great success, or hard not to laugh at. Poor Benji’s hair changes usually fall into the final pile. Seems like a lot off fun. xD Either way, these side strips here feature things outside the main story that help give it its depth. It’s A window into what others are doing. I love it. Benji should just be grateful he’s not Pink like the sketch showed. That would HURT. In the meantime, keep up the good work, and as always, stay awesome!
What about Benji being a poodle with pink curled hairs ? ^_^”
… you evil genius.
That’s what they says ^_^”
Many people seemed to think that Benji’s pink hair worked well on him. But I do agree, this is the second time he gets an imaginary hair change. They’re always fun to do, but not always fun for Benji himself xD
Thank Alpha ^^
So… general comic world question:
Are frog hybrids amphibious? And if so, would that mean that they can only swim in freshwater? (It turns out there is one species of frog that can live in salty water, but I’m pretty sure that chlorine is right out)
Heh. Made me think of that “Creature from the Black Lagoon”-type character in “Monsters vs Aliens”. 🙂
As a general rule, if it takes too much change from human to hybrid, it doesn’t happen. This is why you won’t see bug hybrids with 6 eyes, for example. Humans are the “template” of the hybrids, so it kinda has to “fit”
I’m still a little on the fence about underwater breathing for hybrids. It sounds cool, but I haven’t made any rules about that yet. (partly because I didn’t have any underwater hybrids planned)
I would think a set of working, but not very efficient, gills could work. Being able to breathe underwater for limited amounts of time. But they would probably be just as sensitive to water quality as their hybrid species. Might still want to hold their breath while underwater unless they know it’s safe.
How many people, the first time they read this particular strip, thought that Marco was yelling the actual words ‘Angry Italian Sounds’?
that would be pretty funny in it’s own xD
*Angry Italian Noises* -> Translation : “Son of a Panacotta!”
totally accurate translation :p
At least he doesn’t greet people with “It’s-a me, Marco!”
Yeah, he got better things to say xD
It is always good to learn another language.
But you learning italian words is no sign for the Restaurant doing great…
It depends on how Marco does these kind of things. I know people who curse at Ikea furniture until it’s magically assembled. Maybe this is also Marco’s approach xD
Hmm, now I am thinking of Grrl Power’s Sydney Scoville. She could really expand Kaya’s vocabulary or learn some new expressions to use from Marco.
If Sydney learns to cuss in Italian can she avoid paying the “Swear Jar II”? 😉
Probably :p
but it’s not mandatory to teach Kaya curse words, so don’t invite her for that xD
mammammiaa
mamma mia on a pizza :p
its-a-me a-Mario!
Marco, actually :p
looks like I’m not the only one who thinks that the “new words” are of the potent variety
Okay, seriously, if they’re in DC, there’s a Home Depot on the red line. I lived maybe two stops from one when I was in grad school. He can rent a spray gun.
Of course he’ll have to get a paint respirator and make sure the twins are outside, or also rent a powerful ventilator fan, because if either of them sneeze around paint fumes above the LEL…
FNAF fans only
Anyone: *curses*
Balora/Clara: *anger in some other laguage*
I don’t know why, but I feel like Mr. Romero is the type of guy who would actually say the words “Angry Italian Noises” out loud in anger instead of or in addition to actual Italian swearing.
If anybody recalls (or if anybody is reading this), one of Benji’s dads offered their help with the restaurant if they needed.
