Kaya the pyromanic pyromancer! She has amazing skills.
Absolutely xD
You know you have pyro-skills when you can make electric cooking surfaces burn with fire! Some spilt oil maybe? Puddle of that heated up enough will burn nicely…
…Needless to say, Daniel The Human doesn’t let me do much cooking after I discovered that the hard way…
Yeah, though I wouldn’t think a food truck has an induction cooktop. Usually they have gas-fired appliances for energy efficiency. Induction requires hardwired connections because they tend to chew through current, even at 120VAC. Combustion ranges are more practical for food trucks because of the size. Also, you can get more control over the heat with a combustion range (the amount of incident energy is rapidly controllable and only depends on the burner).
Now if Marco goes with an induction surface in his restaurant, he’d have the same control as with a combustion range because he’d be using his pots and pans on a consistent induction system. When you want good thermal control, you’d need to know how each of your pots and pans behaves under heat…because with an inductor, the cookware becomes the heater.
Then again, Marco’s a pro, he knows how to judge heat. The only issue is how fast he can control the heat to be practical and workable.
Remember; that’s not a food -truck- that is a food -trailer- owned by a millionaire who has a few dozen lying around.
Do the dragon twins use their fire breath to help cook sometimes?
Generally not, since Marco taught them not to do that :p
I thought not, but I figured I’d ask.
I imagine there’d be some sanitation concerns with spitting on the food, even if it’s spitting fire. 😛
They probably also don’t have THAT precise control over how much heat that would be. Most stuff is supposed to be cooked slowly on steady flame.
I feel like “steady” would be more of a concern than heat control. I think the world record for -holding- your breath is somewhere on the order of 20 minutes, and constantly blowing would probably be like half of that. And that’s assuming the twins’ fire-breathing mechanism operates on “blowing” mechanics rather than “spitting” mechanics. How long does proper Italian cuisine need to cook for?
There’s a high probability that their fire liquid is toxic to non-dragons, and it might leave unburned residues or toxic ash, so yes, spitting that on the food is probably a bad idea.
I can imagine them lighting a gas stove that way though. Using matches or a lighter must feel like unnecessary trouble.
I’m not sure Marco could even teach the twins that, given that he’s an ordinary Human and they’re half Dragon Hybrids…
Pity, when you first told us Kai could cook I got this image of him caramelising the top of a Crème Brûlée.
He probably still could, just not in a professional environment. Going to be one great party trick in college though.

I don’t even like crème brûlée, and I 100% did exactly what that Red Mage on the right did when I saw that tiny dragon. It doesn’t matter what the dish tastes like, if you’re doing any part of the cooking process with the help of an adorable #ShoulderSizedDragon, you are going to get the biggest tip I can afford.
Would almost certainly have some sort of effect on the taste, plus the fire is a limited resource.
Load them both up;
Nate and the ‘pup’.
The plan’s success
has made this mess.
Things spiral fast;
people seek repast.
Things burn higher
when made by Kaya…
Benji and Jin
can’t get back in
and so they’ll talk
whilst they just walk…
They’ll just have to walk-off their disappointment at not getting back into the horde. 🙂 Wonder if they’ll run into Clem and Zeke on their walk..? I’m not sure they heard about her before going out to distribute flyers. Benji will turn out to be the big fan-boy, with cute li’l Jin along to draw her attention. 🙂
Benji and Jin are back! And, wow, the crowd’s really gathering!
I know it’s been shown in the past but, Kayla’s definitely a pyro.
*Kaya
Yeah, she has more of a tendency to pyro it up than her brother :p
Daniel here. Yeah, it can be satisfying, watching the way the flames dance. The trick is controlling it so it doesn’t become a threat & not getting too engrossed in it…
NEVER started any bush fires or anything like that, just appreciate the natural majesty of fire. Got no problem saying I was usually the guy tending to the fire on Scout camps. Guess Kayla is a bit the same way…
*Kaya
Daniel here…
Whoops, my bad. Saw the misspelling above, accidentally did it myself… 😛
Kaya has s cooking with an open flame. Be afraid. Be very, very, very afraid. Wait a minute, how’d she get a pillar of flame on an induction stove in the first place?! At least she and Kai look adorable in their matching chef uniforms.
On a more positive/less fiery note, business is booming for Due Draghi and the chefs are, pardon the pun, all fired up! Mr. Marco said it was all hands on deck yet he’s cool as a cucumber dealing with all those orders. Hey look, it’s team Doggy! It’s been too long since we saw Benji and Jin, it’s great to see that they’re back just in time to help out-.. Hey! Get your fuzzy butts back here and help serve the tables!
Benji has Jin’s well-being in mind first and foremost :p
Is Benji worried that Jin won’t be able to handle the crowds?
Yeah, he’s looking out for the little guy ^^
Just like how Kaya is everyone’s little sister amongst the main kids, Jin is now everyone’s baby brother!
Well, that makes things better, a bit…
Jin should carry with him something of comfort to him, like a favorite stuffed toy in a backpack or wearing a lucky article of clothing like lucky underwear or shirt or something. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kaya is wearing her own lucky underwear for the Food Festival so Due Draghi has some extra good luck. Kai too, probably.
I really hope we find out Dinah is in that line. Maybe see Larissa grilling her about it later and Dinah’s defense being, “There was a big line so I thought it would be good food!”
Also looking forward to seeing a bit more of Benji and Jin hanging out. Maybe get to know each of them a bit better. I love the idea of Jin being something of a little brother type character.
I thought I saw Dinah in the left side of the last 2 panels, Next to Benji’s ear. Same dress, dress colour & hairstyle, maybe the right height (I’m still learning how to tell you Humans apart), so it could be her. Only problem is the wrong hair colour, but that could be a wig, hair colouring of some type or colouring “typo” (that the right word?) type mistake…
Used this page to compare them… https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/youve-been-had/
Daniel the Human and I are still thinking of the same thing happening as Daniel the Human said on “Influencer” – “Daniel here. The scenario that came to my mind was something like Dinah shows up at the food truck, the team keeps an eye on her as she orders something and starts eating. Meanwhile Clem finishes/gets stuck into the same item, before asking a random person who is quite obviously enjoying the same thing she did/is (Dinah). Dinah is stunned at first then says the food is terrible in a robotic tone. Clem asks why did Dinah say that when she was obviously enjoying it, especially when (ingredients) were so well made, causing Dinah to “I know, right?”, joining Clem in a several minute back and forth girl talk over just how beautifully well made the meal was. Dinah realises she’s actually promoting the food truck, “uh, I gotta go…”, runs off, but comes back quickly to grab what’s left of her meal…”
Personally, I feel it would be more satisfying for Dinah to decide to stop hanging out with Larissa. “They have better food and you just want to make trouble for them.”
Daniel here. Satisfying, yes. But all known evidence points to Dinah being the “dumb henchmen” type, and they have been known to follow a “Alpha/Leader” type past the point where it would have been smart to bail out. They don’t think that well for themselves, they have someone to do the thinking for them, loyalty keeps them following their boss right off the edge of the cliff…
Later…
Cleo: Benji! Jin! Where were you guys?!
Benji: We were… busy.
Rex: Yeah, so were we! Do you have any idea what kind of crowds we got while you were gone?
Jin: Yes, we saw the crowd and went for a walk.
Cleo, Rex, Kaya, Kai, Marco: WHAT!?
{Benji and Kasumi both glare at Jin, who shies away behind his paws}
That could be funny in another comic, but probably not this one, since Jin would probably be whimpering and hurt by their shout.
I was wondering what happened to those two.
Wouldn’t be funny if Benji was in a place of honor at Jin’s wedding?
Also, I mentioned in one of the prior pages with Jin, in Korean mythology has a celestial serpent called the Imoogi that transforms into a dragon after it receives a celestial treasure that appears every few centuries. Japan and Korea have some unpleasant history, but I kind Jin as the cast’s gateway to understanding Asiatic cultures. Maybe Jin can even make a passing comment about the Imoogi in reference to Cleo, especially since she has a close relationship with a pair of dragons. Jin could even explain the Chinese Zodiac, maybe share some of the stories tied to it, and maybe even help everyone track where they are in the Chinese Zodiac. The year of the Dragon and year of the Snake are right next to each other on the wheel, so if there are just a few months between Cleo and the twins its possible for them to technically be born in the same year while their own signs in the Chinese Zodiac; and could be funny see that Benji was either born in the year of the Dog or just barely missed it for whatever reason (the latter could have him being teased friendly by everyone).
Interestingly enough, I was born in summer of 1988, so I’m a Dragon according to the Zodiac calendar. (At least, according to the placemat in my local Chinese restaurant when I was a kid, ’88 was the year of the Dragon.)
You can find all sorts of Chinese Zodiac stuff online now, so you can just feed what you want to know about the Chinese Zodiac into your search engine of choice and you’ll likely get what you’re after.
Kaya, please don’t burn down the food truck on it’s first day! XD
Guess Benji gets to take Rex’s break for him! Maybe come back in an hour or so and see if the crowd has thinned out enough to get through.
Poor Benji and Jin. They’ll never going to get to try any of the Cooking with the 50K guests in that line.
ALso, can Kaya go 1 minute without the need to burn something?
Once a day, she needs to set something on fire or add something shiny to her horde. Dragon imperative.
I bet she’s one of those characters with a HUGE button collection.
I take it we’ll be seeing Katsumi again soon, still watching, but with less suspicion?
I begin to think that Kaya has some pyromaniac tendencies
And we don’t know yet what Dinah is planning , to ruin them
I expect Dinah does not have any real plans to mess things up at the Due Draghi food truck.
Next week (comic time, not ours):
Larissa: So what did you do at the dragons’ food truck.
Dinah: Well, they had this fantastic ravioli, and the sauce …
Larissa: Wait, so all you did was have a meal?!
Dinah: The picture of it in the menu was so good, I had to try it.
I guess Rex is playing the in real life experience of overcooked.
Also the line to order looks like it’s moving at the speed of a Disney theme park ride line.
He’s certainly overclocking. I hope they all make great tips!
Rex looks like he is going to be pretty beat after that day. I do admire him for helping out his friends. We should see all the kids home at the twins place after this, eating a nice light meal together.
Rex: Do we have anything left, or are we out of stock on everything after that rush?
Marco: I still have a couple of servings of lasagne and I could make up some fettuccine alfredo; I’ve still got some of the sauce. What do you want? You were real troopers out there today.
Benji: That spaghetti and meatballs looked great. Got any of that left?
Kai: No, we ran out of meatballs an hour ago, and we don’t have any more ground beef, so we can’t make any more.
I wonder what Cleo is doing in all of this.
I’m wondering the same. She’s not too haughty to help with the work, is she?
I hope she wouldn’t be. Then again, she might be helping Clementine and Zeke with something.
Kaya’s inner dragon is taking hold it seems..:)
Marco: “Stick ’em on the pile!”
Cleo: “Kaya, you’re melting the ceiling!”
Nate: “Why is there a pile of customers outside?”
*grinning*
“They’re not leaving until they give us a 5-star review on WELP!
For some reason, I can see either 1 of the twins or even both grinning evilly as they say that (most likely Kaya), a few flames casually slipping out from between exposed teeth…
I always imagine that the “fire breath for intimidation” practice would be to let a small blaze out of the corner of your mouth like you’re blowing smoke. So, less

{slams fists on desk} I hate trying to do ASCII art. It’s so frickin’ inconsistent.
I completely understand why Benji and Jin wouldn’t try to get through the crowd, with Jin being nervous about strangers.
On the other hand, there would be a relatively easy way to part the crowd.
Benji: “EXCUSE ME! We’re friends of Due Draghi, and we’re here to help serve tables! Can we please get through so we can get our uniforms on and start helping?”
I’m fairly sure the crowd would part like the Red Sea if Benji was so bold.
On the other other hand, there’s probably less of a line if they went around the food truck instead of in front of it.
Also also, I wouldn’t be surprised if a random kid (not Dinah) were to come up to the truck and offer to help in exchange for a comped meal. Most carnivals accept walk-in help on the spot, especially when it’s busy. I don’t know if any food truck business would do the same, but it seems like something that could happen here, and they certainly could use the help.
Shorter: “Emergency Due Draghi waiters, let us through!”
Not that I expect they’d necessarily be masters of brevity at their age. I mean, I’m 50, and I’m not anywhere close to mastering that.
For Jesse’s Adventure: That’s beautiful and heartwarming! Great job; I love it!
And the Kitchen Krew isn’t phased by the crowd at all! Just happy as two topos in a mouse-hole. 🙂
Hope Rex has a strong bladder. 😉
Grandfather-san’s going to get an ear full tonight. 🙂
“Run, Nate, run! See Nate run!” …in panel four. 😉
Grandfather-san will get an ear full allright…
“He isn’t here?! Vere is Jin?”
“I believe he’s helping with an Italian food truck. Please don’t go looking for him, I do not need the cursed WWII comments.”
That woman in the fourth panel seems to wish she were a hybrid. 🙂
Unless those bear ears are real, her only hybrid trait. But I get the impression that the ears are mounted on the cap.
That, I believe, is Shivanna, a recurring Patreon cameo. Going by previous appearances (i.e. https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/hear-ye-hear-ye/ in the dream chapter), she doesn’t seem to be a hybrid to any noticeable degree.
She might be, but the hybrid trait may just be low penetrance…small tail, fur or scales on a dermatome (an innervated region of skin served by a particular pair of spinal nerves), claws…something that shows a hybridization, but isn’t really obvious, and she’s showing solidarity.
Or…and this could be somewhat darker…she could be a hybrid but her parents had any hybrid features surgically altered/removed when she was very young (electrolysis for the fur, surgical removal of the tail, cosmetic work elsewhere). Think about people from the Romero-Blueford family’s old hometown, only with enough money to “exorcise” their child. How’d she get to Hybrid City? Well…let’s suppose that CPS works at the STATE level.
That’s a lot of necrous speculation for an unimportant Patreon cameo who’s appeared multiple times before and has done nothing to suggest she’s suffering.
Bring in Clive Barker and Doug Bradley and that could change really quick.
What exactly do an author of horror books and an actor in horror films have to do with a patron-created character who semi-regularly cameos in an all-ages, firmly idealistic webcomic? It kind of feels like you WANT these people to suffer.
i like kaya’s chef outfit she looks so cool
I love this comics series and I hope it continues for a long time
I just noticed Jin’s wagging tail.
In your defense, there’s very little tail on-panel.
I work in one of the local campus dining halls as a cook, and sometimes I do what Kaya is doing (albeit not with a maniacal expression).
Also, for Robin just a little trivia factoid I learned, the poofy hats are called toque blanche and traditionally the number of poofs on the hat was symbolic of the number of ways you knew how to cook eggs.
