Tail length
aaaand we have a measurement on the tail 😀
As good a measurement as the doc can get while holding Kai’s tail :p

Thanks for voting!
The tale of the tail is told by the tape,
and he follows the hair from tip to nape;
the examination continues on
as the Doctor plots his new paper’s song.
‘The magnificence of Dragons’ rings true
and it comes in high class stereo too
as he files the papers with Doctor Fern,
what other good answers will the pair learn?
It’s not the hospital that crashed this week,
it’s a new PC that Robin does seek,
but the strip continues as it was planned
with the twins having things firmly in hand.
Although Kai may have trouble with needles. Or needles may have trouble with Kai…
you sir are an artist
That’s a great way to state the two options xD
Dun dun DUN!!!!!
Also, I feel your pain. My windows install crapped out last weekend ><.
Posted here so Robin can see it. While I understand why you may not be able to change any spelling, etc. I can do it for you. Just give me the name of the font you are using for speech bubbles and I bet I can make it right in Gimp. Obviously you don’t have to take me on the offer, but it’s there if you want it.
Thanks for the offer, but I’ll most likely have a new pc this week, with any luck. I’ll make do. Thanks, it’s great of you to offer this ^^
You didn’t lose anything important, I hope?

So he’s longer than he is tall? Neat!
Ouch! I meant to say his *tail* is longer than he is tall.
I kinda like it as-is! 🙂
Yeah, it seems like it xD
Well man, wonder what the record is then for the longest tail?! Now I wonder what the issue with taking a blood sample will be? Tough scales like some have speculated or perhaps it’s something else? Does Kai have an issue with needles maybe? Looking forward to the next one already!
I think dragon or his girlfriend hold the record for longest tail simply by virtue of being bigger, if proportions are taken I to account there may be another record holder.
As for needles
nope,
Nope.
NOPE!
*Drago not Dragon*
Umm I think you got a bit confused the girl dragon hybrid (aka Kaya) is his sister not girl friend
I’m talking about the Komodo dragon hybrid named Drago, he shows up here and there but his last appearance was when the twins first entered the hospital. His girlfriend is named Viper I think
I am guessing Kai’s anxiety is a mix of things.
1) Their previous doctor may not have been that gentle.
2) Blood is taken from a vein, which is made more visible by tensing the hand.
It may not show through scales.
3) Vets have to insert needles at an angle, to go under the edge of a scale.
This is so they not have to try and punch a needle through a scale.
We have yet to have see just how tough the twins scales are.
As they are both flexible, my guess would be not that hard.
This would make finding the vein, even harder.
4) He may just not like needles.
A lot of people don’t.
I regularly have to have blood tests.
I am a white as they come, being a redhead.
My vein pop up and are clearly visible.
I have still had a few days where my arm was like a used darts board afterwards.
My guess for longest tail relative to body length, would be a monkey or gibbon hybrid.
1: That was a thought of mine as well. Combined with tough scales and not easy to spot veins and I can see where the twins might have developed a fear of needles. I do hope if that is the case that the Kai & Kaya don’t have to be restrained for the blood samples, for their safety as well as the doctors!
One small problem with the gibbon hybrid suggestion. Gibbons are apes; they have no tails. Some monkeys, like spider monkeys have very long a prehensile tails for their body sizes. Many lemurs also have tails longer than their body lengths.
My mistake.
I was confusing Gibbons with Spider Monkeys.
As a Veterinarian I can confirm – you really can’t see reptile vessels in most cases to get a sample from them. Fortunately there are a few sites where the vein nearly always is in a definable position and relatively straightforward to hit even without seeing it, like the ventral tail vein.
Poor Kai, he’s already shown his tail is sensitive… 🙁
Longest tail would likely go to an asian grass lizard hybrid, as asian grass lizards, according to my 5 minutes of research, have the longest tail-to-body ratios of any living creature.
I haven’t actually put a number on the longest tail yet. Maybe in the future.
As for the blood sample issue, wait and see xD
You might need a diamond tipped drill to get through the scales.
oof, that might be a bit overkill xD
The only mistakes I can see is that there should be commas at the end of “back” in panel 2 and the first “really” in the alt-text.
Oh, then it’s not so bad 😀 Still updating this later though. Thanks
so super tough skin or acid blood?
or maybe the big, tough dragon boy is simply afraid of needles?
Or maybe he’s accidentally injured a doctor with an involuntary muscle twitches due to nerves as a result of his enhanced strength (which probably will require a now much overdue call to the hospitals legal department given the 2 fires and 3 melted thermometers, and the heaven case of medical tools Kaya caught)
Probably tough scales. Acid blood would take them too far away from their ‘humanity’ for this comic.
All hybrids are, after all, primarily human. (‘cuz Robin said so! ;-))
Acid blood would be a little too out there for hybrids xD
What kind of acid, though?
“Could someone explain why the phlebotomist is tripping balls?!”
Plot twist: Kai is a BLOOD DRAGON! XD 😛
Hahaha, no, he isn’t xD
What would frog hybrids look like? Baby tadpoles that change as they grow up could make identifying the species harder initially.
Well I think they just change colour and maybe some small body parts or they just stay like that
hmmm, they wouldn’t change very dramatically. They would be frogs from the get-go, but there might be some color changes here and there.
Frog hybrids… there, immediately Tsuyu Asui from Boku no Hero Academia comes to mind, but Toad from the Marvel X-Men series would be a legit example too.
Though i would definitely prefer Asui.
Oh, I would prefer Asui as well xD
Not -nearly- as cute as Troye! 😉
They would probably go through they tadpole phase before being born. Actually, we all do.
Kai: “I have no blood.”
Sorry to hear about your computer.
He most certainly has blood xD
It’s okay, I ordered a new one. With a bit of luck, I’m up and running again by the end of the week.
He might not want doctors to know he has blood or they will try to take some. 😉
So is Kaya being measured separately or is she still arguing with the doctor?
A little bit of column A, a little but of column B xD
Ah yes, another one of the interesting quirks about dragons I was interested in. Very tough skin.
It is nice of Kai to warn the doctor before he damages any more of his equipment.
So does the hair run down Kai’s and Kaya’s necks from their heads too? I assume it doesn’t grow at the same rate as the hair on their heads.
Probably both.
It does run all the way from head to tip of the tail. indeed, it doesn’t grow as fast as the hair on their head. in fact, it needs little maintanance, other that a brushing to keep it from tangling.
Kai’s probably going to tell him about how tough his scales and hide are
Might be 😀
Is Doc going to need a kryptonite needle?
I know it’s superman’s weakness, but is it also known as a hard material?
I’m pret-ty sure “kryptonite” is a fictional element. 😉
Well, I DC actually published a piece of the chemical formula for Kryptonite back during the late 90s/early 2000s and some real-world chemists actually managed to piece it out and made some around 2002. At least, that’s what I heard back in 2004 and 2005, I never found any material confirming or denying the claim.
Krypton is an element, kryptonite isn’t.
Krypton is a noble gas. Kryptonite would be a poly-atomic ion made with oxygen and krypton, which has not been made yet, as far as I know. Compounds made with noble gases tend to decompose readily when exposed to other materials that the components of the noble compound want to react with more than the noble gas. For example, xenon pentaphosphide (XeP5), which has been made in a lab. Get it close to something that reacts with phosphorous and they will abandon the xenon atom.
What’s Kai’s shocking statement about dragon blood going to be?!?!
It IS interesting to learn that the strip of hair goes all the way down, though.
Yeah, I found it a rather interesting detail when I added that in the design 😀
I’m betting on him saying his skin is super tough to get out of being stuck with a needle. I can sense the fear in him. I’m the same. They have to hold me down.
But what if it’s not a lie and his skin IS tough? :p
Kai looks nervous about something. My first impression is that those scales are not going to be very cooperative with a standard needle, but I’ve heard some other pretty good ones as well. Kai could simply have a regular fear of needles. Or perhaps because to get through those scales might REQUIRE a larger needle? On the other hand it would be interesting to see if the twins’ blood itself is a concern. Depending on the region, many dragons are described as having blood that burns any flesh which it may touch and can eat through rock. Maybe not quite Xenomorph-level, but definitely something you wouldn’t want to spill on yourself. Might end up right alongside that flame liquid in more biohazard vials. The artwork is just as beautiful as always Robin. The fact that you were able to churn out such a high-quality comic despite your technical difficulties is astounding. I truly admire your dedication. Keep up the good work, and as always, stay awesome! (Oh, and if you haven’t already placed the order for your new computer, feel free to shoot me an email if you need any tips! I’m the head of our school’s Software Division for the Robotics Team, and I spent literally ~50 hours researching different price ranged computers last year when someone dropped a 400 pound tool chest on our old laptop. Regardless, best of luck, and I hope you enjoy your new PC!)
I’ve also seen books where dragons’ blood will give invulnerability or great extended life span.
Thanks for the offer Alpha 😀 I already went and ordered myself a new pc. It’s gonna be a beast xD
there’s definitely going to be something going on with the needles. many theories up to now, but i’ll be delivering the real one next week xD
One thing I can say is that it doesn’t have anything to do with their blood. They’re no xenomorphs, as you mentioned xD
I know how you feel well more on the pc side but still 60.6% on your side aarrgg one of the many down side of be cyborg. Always have to give a % on every thing but it is useful
percentages can be useful :p
The good news is that I have an excuse to invest in a new pc, so it’s not all bad xD I was planning on investing some more time in Gamer Dragons again once I’m through with all the kickstarter work, so being able to play the latest games would be a good thing.
I’m guessing he is either just simply scared of needles or they have very tough skin. Hoping it’s not something about their blood being acidic or combustible, that could lead to all sorts of health/safety problems with them being around other people if they ever get a cut or injury in their life. Imagine your friend scraping their knee or accidentally pricking their finger and the area is now a bio or fire hazard for anyone nearby…
Oh yeah, that would be a nightmare for safety xD
Fortunately, I don’t tend to go too far from human anatomy as a rule for hybrids. There’s no acid blood or burning blood :p
Kai’s tail is as tall as me :O
now you can say “I’m one tail tall” xD
And you can write a story titled: “One Tall Tail Tale”. 🙂
The obvious thought is that they don’t like needles.
I’ll hope for the trickier (funnier) problem of “good luck getting a needle that works”.
both are pretty good guesses :p
I foresee two potentially interesting developments approaching, either their skin is hard cause of the scales thus getting blood will be difficult or a a large fear of needles will cause one or both twins to run for the hills.
Just had a thought… What if he starts to say something about -Kaya’s- fear of needles…just as she screams and runs for the hills? 🙂
That would be comedy gold xD
good guesses there. We will see next week what it is 😀
Oh come on, Kai, it’s just some baseline values. One stick, maybe 3 vials, done.
