Kai, you just tempted fate with that last line! Now I’m expecting Annabella to have stowed away, or swim to the boat, or something.
If the Uncle is the Captain, and Annabella is his Daughter, there’s a good chance she’s going to be his Deckhand, doing random tasks while he controls the boat. She could be below deck making sure she has memorised her Tour Guide notes, popping up when it’s time…
If she shows up at this point, she only has herself to blame if Kai decides to light her hair on fire.
I mean, he’s not Kaya, but she’s done it enough times in the comic that he might decide it’s an appropriate punishment.
You sound like Kaya’s lit hair on fire multiple times, but I only remember once. Have I managed to miss one or more?
I remember the Doctor by accident and the bully deliberately off the top of my head. Might be more I’m missing right now…
I’m 100% certain at least 1 of them did it randomly while a baby or toddler, probably HOW they discovered they could breath fire! Randomly sneezed, accidental flame thrower…
I only know about twice as well, with LordCastigator mentioning both. But when she set the Doctor’s hair on fire, Kai gave Kaya a look like she’s done it before, regularly, even.
Also, I don’t remember Kai witnessing the bully incident. Nor being told about it right afterwards. Oh, he could have been told on the ride home or found out from the bully complaining, but I honestly find it more interesting if Kaya just… lights people’s hair on fire sometimes as a character quirk.
I think if Annabella is not the deckhand, then it’s probably a very deliberate choice knowing who the first tour is for. Which would probably mean any deckhand was not expecting to have that job the day before, or possibly even that morning.
I was thinking more like Frisket from Reboot. She’s waiting on the shore. Once the boat passes there is a sudden rocking as she lands after leaping from the shore.
yeah, he totally jinxed them
You know she’s hiding somewhere,
the Di Grado of the dating scene;
and you know somehow she’s plotting
that that owner shall never be seen…
It’s quite a quiet little lake
in the sea of the family storm.
It’s a day to be happy.
Tomorrow’s for feeling forlorn.
A sail that’s somewhat circular
from point A to point A.
Time to twist together for now;
a dapper delight for the day.
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Owner, we thank you for your service. About time Annabella left them alone.
Eat it, Annabella!
…okay, we know you meant well, but still.
Oh Kai, you should know better. Queue the James Bond style pursuit with Kaya and Annabella on Jet Ski’s.
Hmmmm, is base jumping in from a nearby lighthouse an option?
*Hears a parachute open up in the distance, looks around*
Yeah, I’m not eliminating that option….
Nothing like a relaxing boat ride after lunch.
It’s gonna be sad when these two’ll have to part ways.
It would be a tragedy if they can’t work something out. Near is a fun, sweet girl who would be a fun person to hang out with, and Kai is a really nice guy who seems to appreciate her humor. They work together well as a couple and I really want to see it continue.
Nice to see they’re enjoying the boat ride. Just remember Annabella is probably going to grill her dad for any details she can get.
Pirates of the Mediterranean? Are the Romeros (probably Kaya) making a return to a potentially ancestral occupation? Probably not. What would the names of their crew and ship be?
Haha, I saw that coming! I had a feeling Annabella would get the boot, she’s not a customer nor an employee so she’s obstructing business for the restaurant; plus her “enthusiasm” is scaring away the money-, er, customers! I don’t think your nonna can save you from this nor will she “avenge” you, Anna.
Kai and Near are sailing on the big, blue –wet thing– sea. Kai seems confident there’s no meddling cousin onboard, does this mean he checked the ship? The Romero family’s boat is an interesting shade of green, trying to make it look like Kai and Kaya? It’s cute that the boat has little eyes near the bow, reminds me of the old Mediterranean maritime practice of painting eyes at the bows of ships to detect hazards. Though if those are supposed to be Kaya’s eyes, I’m not sure if they’d be that reliable. Speaking of Kaya, I wonder if she’s onboard the boat acting as Emilio’s deck hand/cabin girl…

"Sailing for adventure!" 🙂

Kai; you really should have skipped that last line. 😉
I thought of that; but, I wonder if they used “Sea” in the original title for Europe..?
Dangit! Supposed to be a reply to jprime!
The paint is obviously not new, so it’s the same paint that was on the boat before Emilio bought it. Thus it’s very unlikely that the color has anything to do with the twins. I’m sure the “eye” is a hole that had some purely practical function on the fishing boat.
Yes, that is where they run the mooring line through when docked. There should be three similar ones. one other on the starboard fore, and two more in the aft, port and starboard.
Hmm, on closer inspection, you guys are right! From the angle shown in panel, the mooring “port” (I don’t know the actual term) looks like an eye that was painted on.
Title text: Drop “Sea” for the proper effect.

The Wikipedia article Caribbean begins like this:
So those are two different things, apparently.
They are, but the pirates happened to haunt *both* (even if to different degrees), so …
I agree with you.
“Pirates of the Mediterranean!” “Featuring, Captain Jack Passero!”
Giacomo Passero
Now’s your moment (ya, ya, ya)
Floating in a blue lagoon (ya, ya, ya)
Boy, you better do it soon
No time will be better (ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya)
She don’t say a word
And she won’t say a word
Until you kiss the girl
Given what I know about Italian families, I would be *very* surprised if this boat ride ends without Near being invited to the Romero house for dinner.
Overprotective daddy will probably have words if he finds out Near is out on a date, though.
To be fair, he’s letting her go around unsupervised for the whole day in a foreign country, so I don’t know if he’s really overprotective.
You do have a point.
Near’s dad knows she is out with a guy. What will freak him out is when he finds out the guy breathes fire! That’s much too dangerous!
I’m not sure she’s publicized the fact that she’s on a date. She only mentioned it in passing when she was getting dressed.
I’ve never actually been on a boat tour, but I have been on fishing boats. A re those nets for catching people’s phones and cameras when they inevitably drop them over the side while taking pictures?
That and people who lean too far over the railing, just as a wave hits the boat.
“And no Annabella in sight”
… he says, probably after having single-mouthedly welded all hatches shut.
