And wow, I wasn’t expecting Near to live so far away. Eager to see how the rest of the date goes.
I’m in!
I’m in….
Why not? As long as you can send it to the West Coast of Australia (opposite side to Sydney ๐), then I would not mind a copy…
Just let me know if you are going to contact me through Email, damn thing gets so much spam you’d think it’s a Monty Python skit! Takes a while to dig anything up sometimes…

Iโm in!
โฆfor my mum – Iโve already got a copy of my own (I just need to figure out where it went in the move)
Also, Near lives near me! (in that she lives in the same country as me – you easily could fit all of Italy in between my place and hers)
I’m in!
So Near and yet so far away. ๐ Perhaps we’ll get a view as to how life in Australia is for hybrids?
Well; she’s way cuter than any “drop-bear,” but everyone will wonder if she’s venomous. ๐ ๐

And the address given is an apartment building off Bondi St.
It shouldn’t be a real address. I specifically used a fake address generator and looked for it in google maps.
That’s pretty much the reason why addresses are usually given off-screen in movies and TV shows.
The closest I found was 27 Ocean Street, Woollahra, New South Wales 2025, Australia. And at least three others in other parts of NSW.
When I had to generate fake adresses I usually took high house numbers or places I knew didn’t exist, like that one street with only odd numbers (the other side was the railway).
Yeah, I used Whereis . com to check, found Woollahra in Sydney too. Different postcode though, they have this year as their postcode ๐ – 2025. Not too far from Bondi Junction Station, maybe a 20 minute walk at my usual speed…
Should be OK if you leave it as is, but if you want to change it, Whereis . Com (without the spaces obviously ๐) can be useful to confirm it’s not a real address. Just go to the site, type in the address, and it will help you from there…
So the address as it’s in the comic doesn’t actually exist, but if you write it on a letter it will possibly end up in Woollahra, which is a suburb of Sydney. Depends on how the Sydney postal service handles such cases.

So Near comes from the land down under, neat! When Near and Kai have to say their goodbyes, it’s going to a heart wrench.
I’m in! And aww, dang. Too bad Near doesn’t live anywhere near the twins. But they can still stay in contact!
Could be a bit difficult, but not impossible. The USA and Australia are literally on opposite sides of the globe, New York’s clocks are 12 hours behind mine here in Western Australia, and Sydney/Melbourne/Canberra is 2 hours in front of me. So when it is 7pm Monday in New York, it’s 7am Tuesday in Perth WA and 9am Tuesday in Sydney, New South Wales…
It’s not impossible, just means when 1 is waking up to daylight hours, the other will be wrapping up for the night. My OC Damien spends roughly half the year in Perth WA and the rest of the year in Hybrid City, New York, with friends in both cities that he regularly video calls online…
(Dad needs to travel for Military work, rest of the family comes along to stay close, Mum uses the opportunity to check in on the Hybrid City offices…
I’m in as well.
Somewhat Ironic that Neaar comes from a place so afar.
Iโm in!
Iโm also very depressed.

Hooray for 500 pages! Here’s to 500 pages of Twin Dragons and many more!
Here we see a rare Kai ear wiggle/ear flap.
Near’s Australian? I wouldn’t of guessed. Does she have an Australian accent? Spontaneous Hybrid Combustion, I wouldn’t put it past the setting, given that there’s Mythical Hybrids like Dragons, a Phoenix, a Komainu, and 6 others. My own OC Jake is prone to spontaneous combustion when he overheats, though he’s fire proof and that extends to his clothes so it’s mostly uncomfortable to him. Near would probably need a trip to the ICU. A rather unlikely reason to visit the hospital given how much of the Australian environment tries to kill you. At least Near’s fur might protect her from bug bites…
I’m in!
An Aussie, neat! And yeah being covered with thick fur would definitely not be fun when it’s hot out.
As far as combustibility goes: maybe Near ought to keep some distance from Kaya, she’s already gotten two others! Though the doctor was an accident.
Absolutely zero angsting or sorrow. Kai is perfectly happy have a [what’s the non-sexual version of one-night stand?] with Near. Bless you, Robin, for refusing to inflict unnecessary suffering when everything exists for peaceful joy.
…I may also be a LITTLE bit hopeful that Kai/Near not being a long-term thing means Kai/Clementine is still on the table. But I refuse to be the selfish bag of Mulch who acts like happiness besides my preferred ship is something to wish for the destruction of. If Kai/Near choose to make a long-distance relationship work, I am choosing to be happy for them.
Yeah, it honestly refreshing, approach-wise. Not unique, but not done often enough. I’m looking forward to seeing if they go long distance, let it be a fleeting moment, or rekindle lager ^^
And horray for the shippers! I guess XD I don’t think you’re the only one hoping for Kai/Clem, though some are tempered by Clem having a boyfriend(the photographer with her) and there are a lot of other ships too! (Though tbf, even if something is set in canon, there’s always fan stuff ^^)
I was going to mention that Clem seems to be dating Zeke; there is at least one picture of them dressed up and dancing together at a school dance.

So Near is worried about spontaneous combustion, and she’s going out with a dragon. Good choice!
And congratulations on an artificial numerical milestone! (Non base 10 users need not apply…)
Yes, a good choice, because he’s fire-resistant so he can put her out with his hands. ๐

And I failed to come up with anything clever to add to this comment (or maybe I did?).
So near, and yet so far a… okay, already done XD
I WOULD be in, but I’m already a proud owner of the book! ๐
Random joke I came up with after a couple hours with shipping on my mind:
“If her name is Near, and his name is Kai,
would that make their shippers the Knights who say Nai?”
#PortmanteauCoupleName
No, DTIBA. Their Shippers are called Near-Kai, and want to ensure that these two are regularly nearby.
OK, fine, I came up with that after reading your comment, and had to incorporate Near’s name into a pun, only to realise that Nearby easily becomes Near-Kai.
I’m in!
Now that is a complex, but neat way to get her address! <3

I didn’t realize I was supposed to be reading Near’s lines with an Aussie accent.
Surprise, Near and fam are from Wales and she’s had a thick West Welsh accent this whole time.
– joking, no idea what Robin intended accents to be.
Given that there seems no special accent noticed by the others (at least not commented on) I assumed that her family are from the states and her parents are just working on the other side of the world.
I know! I think I need to go back to the previous chapter and re-read to adjust my idea of how she sounded to the other kids the whole time!

Congrats on 500 pages.
Something I’ve noticed. Australian English is generally non-rhotic, meaning that final “r’s” get dropped from many words, so someone with a thick Australian accent would pronounce Near’s name similar to “Nya.” If thsi was intentional, well played ๐
Naaa, not all of us Aussies do that, if it’s someone’s name it tends to matter a bit more…
But don’t be surprised if she has a nickname of some sort. Could be Nya as something simple, maybe Kitty due to her Hybrid side, Floof/Floofy/Fuzzball/Fuzzy if she’s OK with it, or something completely different like a common, everyday name. We can get a bit creative/weird with them…
Had a friend named Ryan who ended up nicknamed Forrest because he wanted to show us how fast he could run while we were at a park, so he got out of the car and started running. He was a few dozen metres away when the driver started the car and started reversing. Turns out he CAN run when motivated! Someone shouted “Run Forrest, Run!” out the window, we let him back in, and he was known as Forrest from that night on… ๐๐คฃ
Also, every where’s got a variety of accents, and Australia’s huge with us all spread out. The accent in Sydney’s different to the one in Brisbane, which again would be different to the one in Perth. And don’t get me started on how a person’s brain can just fail learning the language, resulting in childhood speech therapy & a potentially unique accent out of nowhere.
That said, Near almost certainly has a string of nicknames. One of which is likely “Far”, and another is likely “Kitty”, because children are not creative unless they need to be. How those nicknames are treated depends entirely on how Near reacts, and I can see a situation where “Kitty” is used in a derogatory manner, while “Far” is used by close friends.

I already have a copy. (And I’m in it.)
So now we know;
Nearโs from far
but did you guess
Australia.
Kai must have known
He can hear her voice
and he knows each moment
is somewhat choice. (mate)
The day still left?
Fill it with fun
(and, later, visit her
for some Winter sun.)
He can hear her voice, yes, but it’s entirely possible that Kai hasn’t heard enough Australian speech in his 15 years to recognize the accent. But of course he had every reason to expect that she might live far from Hybrid City.
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
True true.
Kai needs to make this a date to remember.

I have been reading since day one! Love how far this comic has come.

Thank you for making such an enjoyable comic. A bright spot every Monday <3
Iโm in! I figured Near living close by would be unlikely, but we could always see the 80/90’s movie twist and have her show up at school as a foreign exchange student for the next semester!
That’s what I’m hoping for.
Kai’s buddies are sitting at the table in the lunchroom, and a voice from behind says “Hey.” Kai turns around and Near leans over and kisses him. The entire rest of the table is sitting there with their mouths dropping, except Kaya, who has her arms crossed, a smile on her face, and ears wiggling.

Interesting’ there’s been no sign of an accent for Near. Also; Kai asked if she -lives in- Australia, not if she was -born- there. Hmmm….
I’m out. ๐ I got Volume 1 as part of the Kickstarter. I’ll respectfully decline being part of the drawing, but I *will* congratulate you on 500 pages! ๐๐๐
Also, I always smile at an adorable ear wiggle!
Said on Patreon, but I’ll say it here as well: I’m in, thank you much.
My, so far away. You’d think with a name like ‘Near,’ she’d be closer by.
So, how will this go? Is this just a one-off date? A bit saddening…
I wrote a character a decade or so back who was transformed into a catboy while attending a college in Arizona. Suddenly being a fur baring person in the desert did not make for a happy transition (on top of evil bus doors that want to close on tails and needing to replace IDs).
