Dice dragons
The twins never had a group to play boardgames with, so this is eye opening to them.

Rex was totally looking at [SPOILERS REDACTED FOR JESSE’S ADVENTURE]
…how long until Kaya has her own vacuum chamber so she can de-gas her very own custom resin dice?
’Cause I’m almost positive that she’s going to go down that rabbit hole just for that ‘Dice Dragon’ moniker.
“How many dice do you need?”
Well, let’s see: probably at least two different types of roll per job class being run by the current party, plus general-purpose d20s and d100s; if you need to make multiple rolls in succession, you can do it with a handful of colour-coded dice instead of rolling one-by-one; you want a LOT of spares in case your rolls tumble off the table and end up in an awkward-to-retrieve place, because you don’t want to interrupt the game to procure them if you don’t have to; and that’s assuming you’re not the guy who has an entire armoury of custom-designed dice because you think i.e. racing stripes will give you better rolls in a racing minigame.
Oh, and you need like a hundred d20s if you’re gonna try and roll the ones out.
(Can you guess where I get most of my tabletop gaming knowledge?)
I have a friend who has a Crown Royal bag full of various dice. Which includes a couple of d30s in addition to the usual d4, d6, d10, d20s and a d100 of various designs and colors. He is also a game master of various game sets.
As a game master for Savage Worlds I have several boxes for players (2x of d4, d6, d8, d10, d12) together with the ones I use. So just about 100 or so. I have been cutting back. 😀
Let the hording commence.
Hording or hoarding?
Who let the kids out,
from under their command?
The Dog let the kids out,
Just as they had planned.
Kaya strikes the pose
shared by control and disco
as Rex explains the dice;
and Cleo asks ‘how’s this go?’
Kai tries to control madness;
that really won’t go far.
Many people may mean many Kaya’s…
Has this place got a (soda) bar?
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
I’m curious as to what Rex is looking at too, Cleo.
And here we get to see a bit more of Rex’s geekier side.
Did she just catch Rex eying saucy elf maid art?
Given where we are it is more likely foxkin or so instead of elves.
Considering Nate tease during the museum chapter, it’s probably something wolf like.
Reading this I am reminded of the dice board I gifted to my brother.
First roll from his youngest.
– He hit the board,
– from one meter away
– at full power.
– Of course the die flow away from the table.
I asked my brother to explain them the reasons for using a dice board.
The start of new dragon hoards? Will they be kept with Kai and Kaya’s piggy banks and other treasures?
A reminder of the twins’ friendless background and of Kaya’s enormous literal mindedness. Thankfully, Kai is there as her voice of reason and to keep her excitement at manageable levels. Kaya’s pose in panel 2 just makes me think that she’s exposed herself to a tickle attack.
Rex looks like his inner nerd is peeking out. I wonder what caught his eye that also seems to embarrass him when Cleo comes over… Maybe Rex found a cute looking dice tower or other game accessory that he doesn’t want his friends seeing? Anyways, I hope the group is able to get as much loot they like as they can, whatever those could be.
Geez, that author’s note…it’s so easy to forget, they grew up outcasts. Truly bittersweet, contrasting the joyful ‘now’ with the past letdowns.
Ten gold says it’s a griffin plush
I take that bet 😉
Panel 5: Maybe move the comma from “Goblins” to “or”?
