Your Name
Seconded! 🙂
Name is a pretty good choice.
That’s my guess, too.
That’s my name, don’t wear it out… 😛
LOL Haven’t heard that one since junior high school! Love it! Thank you! 🙂
Ditto
What he done typed.^^^^^
Your phone number
That was my guess before going into the comments.
Not for me it ain’t – I enter my number on forms and such WAAAAY more than I get phone calls or text messages. 🤣
What Meatz said
Your love, your word, your hospitality, or your generosity.
I’m not surprised that Jin likes playing pretend, I’ve imagined him mimicking the characters in his favorite shows. Somehow Jin the Sphinx is even more adorable in this comic, especially how he climbs onto his perch; he’s such a precious little baby. Kaya can’t stop bouncing in excitement, her squeeing seems nearly ready to make Jin, Rex, Benji, and Ka chan howl.
I like Jin’s pose in the third and fourth panels. In the fourth, that kicking foot completes the small-child look. 🙂
Yeah that kid-sphinx position… there’s even a shot of a girl watching the Apollo 11 mission on TV in the exact same pose. I swear the sphinxes must have gifted all kids with it millennia ago.
Got a link to that? I remember Dad bringing a Polaroid camera home from work to take a picture of the first moon landing. 🙂
Which also adds another answer to Jin’s “What am I” question: adorable!
Jin’s lying, not lying
to the terrible trio;
to Kai and Kaya
and, of course, Cleo.
He tasks them true
for name or number?
He confirms the clue
as sleeping Dogs slumber.
Where ARE Regal Rex
and our Nefarious Nate?
They WERE both brought
to this temple date.
Hmmm, lots of potential answers to this first riddle and already some good guesses. Wonder what the right one will be?
A question for all: given how cute Jin has been these past couple of comics will Kaya hug him before they move on to their next location? I’m going with no!
Oh shoot! Goofed up there, I meant to say yes to Kaya hugging him. Had the question worded a bit differently at first, then went and changed it up a bit but forgot to change my answer to it.
I think that name would be the classic answer. Hope he doesn’t take this TOO seriously. Someone needs to at least make a joke about it. In the fable, the sphinx did not take a correct answer well.
I voted for ‘name;’ but, is Robin looking for the classic answer? Or will he throw a twist at us…again? 😉
Annndd.. what kind of answer is -Astrid- looking for? Will it be something that even Robin did not expect?? 🙂
I’m imagining Jin just going, like: “Oh Nooooo~ I am bested…” and then lazily rolling over so they slide off of the platform.
Next riddle: You walk 2 km north, 2 km west, 2 km south and are back where you started. During your walk, you saw a man carrying a piece of metal. What was he doing?
Obviously he works at the Amundsen-Scott station, either on one of the research projects or maintaining the station itself. Naturally lots of tools and equipment made of metal are used there, so “a piece of metal” is too general to pinpoint the task he was doing.
I am the beginning of every end. I am three in eleven, and I can be found in the middle of a sea. With me you can get both praise and rebuke. I am present in darkness but not in daylight. What am I?
The letter ‘e’
Correct.
The “piece of metal” maybe be a compass. (And he may be lost, as I suspect the compass won’t work well that close to either pole. ;-))
Yeah, I did not research that one well enough prior to asking the question. I was thinking the man was carrying the South Pole marker, but is done as a group effort, starting at last year’s South Pole and the nearby research station would indeed have lots of metal besides the next marker to be put in the ice. I just knew you were too far from any water for you to pass a black and white bird.
You end up both two km west and end up where you started.
Either the metal is what you started on or it’s being used to move the starting point.
Could be something along the lines of a platform being moved or a shovel to move the ground that was the starting point.
Alternatively it’s a large magnet to mess with your compass.
Kaya got excited by the cuteness, I can’t blame her on that one; an energetic, bouncy, excited Kaya usually doesn’t bode well for everyone else
So we’re at the first riddle.
I love how Jin really tries to get into the role of the Sphinx.
“Getting into the role is part of the fun!” 🙂
Glad to see Jin seems to have as much fun out of it as the others 🙂
I think Kaya is more busy to bounce than to search for the answer ^_^”
The answer (for me) is : the name
Panel 4: Drop the comma from “three”.
It can be left. It signifies Jin’s taking a breath and leaving a small pause.
Yeah, I think it reads better with the comma.
Re: new page of the world guide: OWWWWW… I have never understood the mentality of “pants should have zippers” in ANY capacity. Buttons are much less likely to cause the wearer harm.
World Guide, paragraph 2: Add commas to “and” and “such”.
Paragraph 4: Ditto “out”, like in the next paragraph, and “incidents”.
Paragraph 5: Ditto yet again “similar” and “out”, like in the last paragraph. Also, “thought out” should be hyphenated.
your face. you only see yourself in a mirror or a selfie, but everyone else sees you constantly
Seeing isn’t using though.
Jin: “What is your name? What is your quest? What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?”
Katsumi: “Someone’s going to get launched.”
Better launched than lunched?
Hey I used that one on last comic
African or European ?
I’m still just imagining Nate in the background, with Google search up on his phone.
And regarding the world guide about the tail hole in clothing…has no one used Velcro yet?
I’ve seen Velcro get caught in hair. They weren’t very happy about it. Stray strands get stuck in the hooks too, clogs them up…
I thought it was the dog’s hairbrush…
Uh let’s see my life, my emotions, my body, my car, my phone, my name, my money.
I believe you are waaaaayy overthinking this, especially for a comic strip. 😉 🙂
You have lived a very unfortunate life if you think those are ALL viable answers.
Or a very fun one!
What do you call the life story of a car?
The road life.
{ba-dum-tss!}
Oh, wowzers! What a hard, hard riddle! Oh, what will Jin-san ask next?
And I should have added a smiley. 🙂
Re: World guide – I often like to reference this page from a DMFA bonus comic. It long struck me as one of the most-thought-out explanations for tail holes in clothing.

This one in the World guide is also really good, though. I’d say it’s pretty well up there with the DMFA one. =3
