JOGGING a newspaper/advertising route, then to school? Impressive. And he’d have to carry all the weight of the papers for much of it too. Sure, the weight will go down slowly as he unloads it, but still Impressive…
AND, on top of all that, he has to stay awake for his classes!
Maybe class is where some of those eight hours come from.
There is a reason he is the best basketball player in his district.
That makes sense, it lets him work his job into his training routine. He can probably do that in about two hours, less if he doesn’t stop at each house to drop off the paper and just chucks it at the door (or shoot I suppose.) I worked that out based on average jogging pace, but Rex is probably above average considering his height and fitness, so he could definitely go faster
couple that with him being a wolf hybrid, time would go down a bit more
The Lizard-Wolf’s route is extreme,
Running up stress for his life’s dream;
pacing his day to the beat of his feet;
pushing himself in spite of defeat.
The questioning draws out his story;
bringing more attention to his glory.
He’s the best there is in his biz.
He’s far more better than he thinks he is.
Cleo’s having fun with her friend;
he’s someone on whom she can depend.
He’ll never ask but she’ll still offer.
He never ask for her to proffer.
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Goodness, what a jock. Are hybrids built differently, or is that just him?
It’s just him. Try and have Amy run a mile and she collapses xD
As would I. I’d have trouble circumnavigating my yard!
I know some dragons who are known for their strength (among other things). )P
Strength doesn’t necessarily translate into stamina, though.
True, Kai has proven he is already at least as strong as an adult, but during the training for the Basketball Challenge he also showed he needs to work on endurance. He ran to one side of the court and back, was a bit puffed afterwards…
It doesn’t translate into stamina, but it do make a lot of jobs requiring stamina easy, here for example, if Kai or Kaya was doing this, they might still have problems with doing the more than 5 mile jog, but presumably the fact that they have seriously boosted strength, would mean that the carrying the newspapers while running wouldn’t make the task nearly as much harder for them as it would for a human, as for them the newspapers wouldn’t feel nearly as heavy.
Wolves are one of the few species that possess sufficient stamina to run for miles; this is a major factor in their hunting strategy. Humans are the other one I can think of. Everybody else tires out too quickly to run a marathon. Rex appears to be a merger of the two long-distance runners.
Depends highly on the species.
Dog-hybrids will have more of the running genes in them. For example huskies can run miles after miles when they get into it.
On the other hand builds for strenght like Kai and Kaya will need to train.
Rex is… trained on top of that. He is doing that for at least 2 years, probably longer. So it is natural that he can do long runs as
a standard trainings regiment.
Like professional runners. They train their stamina.
Kai and Kaya had no need to train.. running away from the mob with forks and torches aside.
So basically Kai is starting his training due to being in the basketball team.
And with everything.. There will be people/hybrids who have a natural ability for things.. And others that simply do not.

Check it out and tell me what you think.
O.O! dude certainly wasn´t kidding whe he told kay that he´s putting in effort to make it big playing basketball
Rex definitely is dedicated! So long as he keeps his grades up too he can likely go to a college of his choosing on a full ride athletics scholarship.
I am wondering if they would be willing to give Rex two scholarships. Because Nate is the best sort of terrible friend that you wanna keep close.
How many flyers does he have to deliver on his jog? Paper isn’t heavy unless you’re carrying a large amount of sheets.
Crazy wolf. A five mile jog to school? No wonder he has so much stamina. He should make sure to have plenty of rest days in order for his muscles to recover. Maybe Kai can join him for half the jog so he can build up stamina, since that’s his weak point.
I can imagine why Rex wouldn’t want to work in the food industry, he’s a big fur ball. It would be difficult serving food when he has a greater risk of getting hair and fur in it. Especially during shedding season. For now, let’s leave the dorky wolf with his latest prized possession.
Five mile jog BEFORE school, and THEN jog TO school. (Then try to stay awake all through classes. ;-))
Must wear an interesting hair-net for the food industry. 🙂
He certainly has a leg up on the competition (no pun intended) if he decides to go into the military. A 5mi run, with a kit, is a commonly mentioned military thing.
The comment about working in the food industry makes me wonder if hybrids would need to wear like, a full-body version of a hairnet when preparing food so fur does not get into it, that stuff sheds easily and everywhere. I recall Benji mentioning in the early strip that he has to constantly vacuum his room because of that.
I’m thinking fur clad Hybrids might have to be denied food service jobs, due to the sheer volume of hair. Many would argue it’s discrimination, but Normal Humans have to wear hair nets over their heads, beards and any other exposed hair to protect the food from stray hair, to do the same for a furry Hybrid they would have to wear a full body disposable overalls. I can see some stores trying that method, but I don’t see it as a sustainable solution….
Rex definitely lives an athlete’s life. Being the schools basketball star/team captain/etc… it’s no surprise.
Rex’s statement of “I’m fit,” reminded me of Gabriel Iglesias’ saying of “I’m not fat, I’m fluffy!” Which gave me a laugh.
Pristine offering this week, Robin. No notes.
Rex is about to develop an addiction to dice, and other TTRPGs
Why are you assuming he doesn’t ALREADY have an addiction? The dude was already established to have tabletop gaming interests when C&D was first introduced way back in Chapter 6.
Chapter 6 was the first time Rex tried roleplaying. He had heard a lot about it, or at least enough to know that there were different rulebooks. He hadn’t bothered seeking out a roleplaying club, but he took the chance to try it when he was invited. I’d call that moderate curiosity.
Now he’s showing sustained interest. That’s a step up from curiosity, but nothing that could be called an addiction (to anything other than basketball or fitness) has been shown so far. If he has already developed an addiction to tabletop gaming, then that has happened behind the scenes after chapter 6 and hasn’t come to light yet.
As someone who grew up with no one to play the Pokémon TCG with, I can comfortably say you don’t need to actually USE something to develop an addiction to COLLECTING it. Nothing stopping Rex from already having a respectable dice hoard.
Peppermint Patty approves.

This settles it! I’m shipping RexCleo!
RUNNING an 8k every day would be insane. JOGGING it… I could just about jog an 8k once without training. If he’s been working this paper route for a while, being able to jog it every day is impressive, but not olympic-athlete crazy.
Is it safely to assume that besides his around
10km running he is also doing the
100 push-ups and so on?
Just to know where Rex is going with his training ^^
