Kaya helps make bang bang Spag boll
by being her normal, sedate, self.
A distraction like her right now
can be dangerous for your health.
It’s not all play with her, good Kai;
plenty of it’s really just her;
with skills to charm the Wolves I bet
and smiling lines to make cats purr.
Don’t make a scene, oh mighty Kai;
and not over this thing, at least.
Kaya’s unflirting with trouble
and might just have destroyed the feast…
Kaya helps makes Spag boil
His normal reaction to herself.
She’s distracted now, and
Her health’s a danger
to yours good Kai.
There’s plenty of her to go around
with charms like werewolves and yet,
Her smile’s like a cat’s
an evil Cheshire’s, good Kai!
And this ain’t over yet,
Kaya’s trouble, and aware of your flirting
With the bear, on whom your eyes feasted.
(sorry Welshy. You just inspire me at times. 😉 )
Did she break the door?
Only if it’s lucky.
Was it that shape before?
The door, and all those boxes of…stuff. 🙂
Poor Kai, but it’s better knowing the truth. Although I had thought he would informed ahead.
And the question is will that extra spicy pasta
a) Accidently go out to a customer
b) be disposed
c) be’disposed’ by being fed to Kaya
?
……..Daniel the Human would probably still eat it. He hasn’t tested pushed himself to his limits yet, but apparently he enjoyed some spice his Sister’s Boyfriend had as a challenge…
I’m partial to option C. She breathes fire, so she should be fine with all the spice. If not, it would still be funny.
Kaya, don’t just barge in on people preparing food. It could least to an accident.
I’m really hoping that plate gets disposed of and restarted.
Or Larissa (having somehow conned or snuck her way back into the festival) gets it served to her.
Thankfully, that’s not one of dishes Clem had ordered since she already got hers.
Nah, it’s going to the batty siblings. The middle sister looks like she is about to rocket to the moon, and the older sister gets over her crush on the Big Bad Wolf due to him serving her such a painful dish. Their little brother is scarfing down his plate, loving the flavour. Mind you, that might explain how he damaged the gym last time.
Kaya being supportive while at the same time unintentionally being/doing the opposite, rubbing it in her brother’s wounds. Don’t worry Kai, I’m sure Clementine was being genuine (or should I say, “authentic?”) with her complement, after all you are an adorable Dragon! And as for you, Kaya, don’t slam the door when you enter the food truck! You made Kai ruin that dish by being loud enough to pop the lid off the red pepper flakes, you should really know better if you have experience in the kitchen, being loud disturbs the chef and interferes with their concentration on more delicate dishes. Clementine hasn’t been recognized twice already in this chapter (ouch!), so much for being a celebrity… Kai should’ve reasonably been able to recognize her name, due to Kaya being a fan and likely to share (read: force) her brother to look at any fashion magazines for Hybrids she owns.
I had the thought about how she shouldn’t slam the door, too.
Then I thought about how strong the dragon kids apparently are, and realized this is something that’s probably very difficult for both of them. It’s probably going to be easier to get her to not slam the door open by instructing her to not let the door bang against the wall when she opens it, so she knows she has to hold onto the handle and control exactly where it moves to, rather than just turning the handle until it can open without breaking and brushing the door open like she’s used to.
As far as Kai’s ignorance, you clearly are unaware of how forcibly some people ignore their siblings’ interests. It at least lightly correlates with how intensely their siblings are enthusiastic about their interests, so if Kaya’s as enthusiastic as she seems, Kai’s probably very forceful on how much he has to ignore her interests just so that he can live in his own headspace. Also, while there aren’t likely to be multiple people named Clementine as characters in the comic, there are surely multiple people named Clementine in the world they live in. Just because he met someone with that name, doesn’t mean he met the famous one.
I met Steven Martin, just not that Steven Martin. Also Eddie Murphy, but not that Eddie Murphy. I could go down a list.
You do make a good point, just saying her first name probably won’t trigger any recognition for Kai. Kaya should have been more specific about which Clementine she was referring to. People need more details that that.
So they are, by accident, going to serve almost the type of food I was concerned that Due Draughi might be serving. At least they’re not serving it to Clementine, since she’s already gotten her food.
To be clear, when I say almost, I mean making food extra spicy is *usually* not just “add more red pepper”. While that stuff is hot, if you add *that* much to a dish, you need to also consider the flavor of the red pepper apart from its spiciness. Some people might like it, but I find it unpleasant and I’m apparently not alone in that. There are other pepper flakes and hot sauces that either don’t have that problem or compensate for it appropriately.
I don’t know if ghost pepper flakes have the same issue, but ghost peppers are enough hotter than red peppers that you can make the dish about as spicy by using a very little ghost pepper as you can with dumping on a lot of red pepper, so you don’t have to worry about what flavor ghost peppers have beyond their spiciness.
And, yeah, I realize that for most people, the underlying flavor doesn’t really matter, that much red pepper, all you’re going to taste is burning. But for a lot of people who like spicy food, it’s going to taste like spicy burnt bell pepper. Also, some of us really don’t like the flavor of bell peppers, apart from the bit where they don’t actually seem spicy.
I’m of the “no such thing as too much hot pepper” persuasion, myself! My favorite way to eat corn on the cob is with butter, salt, and LOTS of chipotle pepper. And my mom puts hot Italian sausage in her spaghetti sauce. Haven’t had hers in quite a while since my parents live an hour away, and my wife has a low heat tolerance when it comes to spices, so I just add hot pepper flakes to my spaghetti once it’s on my plate! Incidentally, I don’t care much for the ultra hot peppers like Trinidad Scorpion, ghost pepper, etc. I like my heat to actually have flavor, and to me, those are all heat and no flavor.
Well, joking aside that one is probably going to the trash. No responsible restaurant would serve a dish that got that overly spiced to any customer, at least those who didn’t sign a waiver absolving the restaurant of any harm that came about from consuming it. Imagine Rex or Nate would be sent to the customer with an apology explaining the situation and delay for having to prepare their food a second time.
Kaya, you’re making assumptions. Just because someone is being filmed does not mean that everything they do is an act. (As evidence, one of the first things Clementine did when the camera started rolling was complain about the heat.) Her being here for an Instawham promo does not automatically mean that her interaction with Kai was insincere.
Also, is that just pepper flakes that Kai accidentally overdosed the spaghetti-and-meatball dish with? Because if the customer who ordered it isn’t interested…
To be fair, your first assosiation with Instagr… Instawham celebrities isn’t that they are sincere with their interactions.
I don’t think the whole thing was an act, I get the feeling Clem doesn’t really roll that way, at least when she has a say in things like this.
Kaya really knows how to push things sometimes, usually doing what she did in a busy kitchen would not be quite as favorable, even if there’s just 1 to 3 people in the kitchen.
WE know that Clem isn’t like that but how would Kai?
I’m kind of dismayed that Due Draghi uses canned sauce.
Is that sauce? It looks more like ground pepper.
That was my second thought, but then I looked a third time, and realized my first was right – that’s some variety of crushed red pepper. Look at the shape of the red thing on the can – it’s chili pepper shaped, not tomato shaped.
Having said that, even using canned crushed or ground pepper is disappointing. But I do understand they’re working in a truck, so space is at a premium. It’s at least plausible, given how easy the top came off, that it’s a can they refill routinely from pepper they prepared themselves. Also, on that same note, given how careful Kai was being with it before Kaya, they may have only brought one or two cans of pepper for the day.
Think he was trying to avoid adding too much. If they ground it themselves, it might flow freely. The commercial stuff is ground too fine, and cakes up.
Well I hope whoever Kai was preparing that order for likes their noodles extra saucy! XD
Don’t be so disappointed just yet Kai, an act sure but maybe not entirely. You’re a good looking young guy in a nice uniform so I’m sure the compliment was sincere.
And on looking again I have to agree with some of the other commenters, that looks more like pepper, not sauce. Like ground chili pepper instead of ground peppercorn. In which case that means, hope whoever he was fixing that for has dragon like heat tolerance!
“Hey, Sydney, you want an order of spaghetti and meatballs? I know you might want a little spicier, but this is all they can do. As in, the cook dumped his entire shaker cup of pepper flake on it. They’re all out of pepper flake now.”
That would be an interesting cross-over: Twin Dragons & GrrlPower.
I can think of a few other interesting crossover ideas that could work with Twin Dragons.
Too much pepper, TOO MUCH PEPPER! Can’t blame Kai though considering it looks like Kaya may have knocked the door off the hinges. (And even if not it probably sounded like it with the bang and all those boxes falling.) Amazing work as always Robin! I know I haven’t been very timely with comments lately, but I’m still keeping up with the comic every week and it always puts a smile on my face. Thank you for your continued commitment to giving us something to look forward to every Monday! Keep up the good work, and as always, stay awesome!
“Too much pepper”
That’s YOUR opinion. Assuming I’m interpreting the dimensions of that plate right (and that it is in fact pepper; there seems to be some disagreement on that in this comments section), I would happily eat that spaghetti and those meatballs with that amount of pepper. That being said, I would prefer to mix it into my pasta while pouring, rather than pouring it all on top and THEN starting to mix.
I think that there is a client who will request soon two or three buckets of water ^_^”
It needs to be fat-based to cut the heat: mayo, full-fat milk, ice cream, cheese sauce, etc.
I’d say it was half an act, and half amazing interaction that will look great for how genuine he was with her order. Can you imagine a review with an Italian restaurant that actually speaks Italian fluently? Although I hope he doesn’t serve the extreme pepper plate there that would make any non dragon breath fire.
I’m just wondering if the red stuff is pepper flakes or just tomato paste or something. Seems like even if Kai was distracted, he would know better than to serve a plate of mostly pepper flakes. Sure, he’s distracted by a very distracting sister, but he’s been kitchen help long enough to know better…right?
To everyone who thinks the red stuff may be some kind of sauce or paste: Note the perforated lid on the can. That’s for sprinkling powdered spice from. A pulpy sauce wouldn’t get through the holes.
To Robin: It does look rather like tomato sauce if I ignore the perforated lid. To make it look more like a powder, I think it would help to surround it with a cloud of red dots in the second panel, and maybe sprinkle the red field with darker red dots in all the panels.
also the little wavy lines coming out of the red stuff.
After eating that plate…
Kaya: “Wow, we’re not the only ones that can breathe fire!”
Thems are in fact
Sum spicy meatballs
You ain’t just whistling Dixie there, pardner.
Surprising people in a kitchen is a good way to lose a finger..
More likely a good way a good way for the surprise-ee to lose a finger.
Or forget to add the special sauce, not wash their hands, or make irregular portions! Or lose a hand. Good thing Due Draghi doesn’t have any Wyrm scaler knives or any special type of blade that can cut or pierce through Dragon flesh. It’s also good that Kai and Kaya are resistant to being cut.
Why i have the sudden feeling that this food will go on Dinah’s table ………..
I don’t get what kaya is talking about in the last panel
First panel of the next strip will make it obvious. 🙂 Basically; Kaya thinks Kai is disappointed to find out Clem -probably- wasn’t really interested in him when she made all that fuss over him on camera.
Would love to see a text free version of Panels 1 & 2 for memes
Hmmm… That spagetti looks like it was made for my brother… He likes, when his food not just hot, but it could burn someone’s eye by a single glance.
