Kaya begins with leaving a lasting impression on the town.
I have two things to say today:
- I updated the cast page just now with more descriptions of new arrivals to the cast.
- You all voted A LOT! 470 responses, wow! here’s the results:
An overwhelming victory for hybrid abilities. Guess you guys really wanna know how Kai and Kaya can breathe fire. I will be releasing some explanations and sketches of this over the next weeks.

Hey! There’s nothing wrong with Rats,
Bar the virus that can’t be downloaded.
The last thing I think on seeing them is
“these guys need to be exploded!”
It’s supposed to be a learning curve
finding out all your skills of survival.
It’s hardly going to help anyone if
you’ve sorted it out by their arrival!
Everyone needs a change of clothes
and there are fires to be put out
but we know the truth of Kaya now…
She’s a fireball, without a doubt!
Great poem again ^^
Hope you’re not offended by the rats being blown up in the comic :p
I bet that all the rats have left the town as soon as they’ve seen Kaya in the third panel XD
You Maniacs! You blew them up! Ah, screw you! God screw you all to heck!
(Ps I had to edit the quote so it fit the situation and tone down the language)
Much appreciated :p
What’s the quote from?
planet of the apes 1968 ver
I see. She is using the Edgar Montrose method of pest removal.
Building owner: You were supposed to remove the rats, not the building.
Accountant: Now, now. Let me deal with this. For eliminating the rats, you are paid the agreed-on 44 silver pieces. For repairs on the building, you have to pay 270 gold pieces.
Rex: But we don’t have that kind of money!
Accountant: Well, then you should talk with this man.
Sheriff: I see. So on top of Reckless Endangerment, Arson, Destruction of Private Property, we add Inability to Pay Debts. You four get to come with me.
Kai: She’s the one that blew things up. The rest of us had nothing to do with that.
Cleo: That’s right. The paladin and I were the ones that started the fire-fighting efforts.
Sheriff: But she is part of your group, and you acted as a group, therefore you all have to pay. Your wizard gets the criminal charges, but you all have to pay the debt. The judge will see you in the morning.
Kaya: Ok, so may not have been my best choice.
Kai: You think?
Nono, it’s the Kaya method. Patented and trademarked and everything xD
I do hope none of those poor Rats were Welsh…
Nah; I’m pretty sure they were English. 😉
Black rats comes from Asia
You don’t need to solve a town’s problems if there’s no more town! Genius!
There’s still a lot of the town left, but the concept stays the same :p
DRAGON SLAVE!!!!
Wouldn’t that glass the entire town?
Had to look that one up. It would be a suitable spell for Kaya to learn, I’m sure of it xD
Dragon Slave is NOT Lina Inverse’s strongest spell, though … I think it’s third.
Good thing there are 2 healers in the group: 1 for damage from encounters with monsters, 1 for damage inflicted by Kaya.
Also like the puff of smoke as Kai coughs.
Whelp, time to reap the inexplicable loot dropped from RPG rats:
3x Cure Light Wounds Potion
1x Leather Armour
1x Piano
The paladin can’t Cure Light Wounds until level 4. Those potions are going to be kind of handy right now. Remember to enforce encumbrance; that piano is going nowhere.
that’s some very random piano right there.
Kaya knew she was gonna need a dedicated healer. POCKET HEALER!!!

A small quibble that many people get wrong. Dice is plural of die. So she rolled a natural 20 on a D20 die.
Already it’s useless to say “D20 dice” , when the “D” means “dice”
While Dice is in fact the plural of Die, dictionaries are descriptive not prescriptive – if a word is used for a certain meaning enough then that will be put in the dictionary as a definition, and using Dice as a singular as well as plural is one of those things.
Also, Panther’s got a good point – neither of them should be used here.
I was doubting about that. I knew about the word die but I haven’t heard it a lot in conversation or text so I was doubting :p
I don’t know if they’ll get a reward , but surely a bill of repairing ^_^”
Cute tiny team in the third panel , and i love Rex’s face in the last one ……… “Bleh , what’s just happened ?” XD
Bill of repairing. Can be sold for 5 gold coins to unsuspecting traveler. No refunds.
Thanks ^^ Rex had a first taste of what it’s like to be around Kaya xD
I imagine it tasted like chocolate: https://www.twindragonscomic.com/comic/game-night/
An explosion tasting as chocolate ? 0_o
Kaya has bought her spell to wolf Wolfram , is it ?
You don’t have to Michael Bay EVERYTHING, Kaya. This isn’t the Mythbusters school of magic.
At least the group is still standing, so that’s a plus.
But she can’t stop herself to do it ^_^”
Well she’d better, before she becomes the source of a total party wipeout. She might do what my brother did in a game of Mage: the Ascension. (For those of you familiar with the system, you know what is likely to happen when the player says something like…)
“I want to annihilate the building.”
Let’s just say that Kaya is unconsciously exuberant XD
but Michael Bay-ing is a valid tactic!
Alt-text: You left out the second “s” in “strongest”.
Thanks for catching that ^^
Good thing they have a healer…
“Healer, heal thyself!” 🙂
she’s needed :p
Hmm, is Cleo’s character high enough level to cast Prayer? She may need it before too long.
Come on, who could have guessed she’d get a natural 20 on her first attack roll.
Of course, when she eventually faces a really tough monster and needs a massive attack, she’ll probably roll a one.
Kaya doesn’t go for anything less than maximum destruction, a natural 20 was needed xD
I don’t know if I’m excited or sad that we’re getting ability explinations, on one hand I get a solid answer, on the other speculating about it was pretty fun.
Either way that was just a bonu really
Many readers wanted to know about them even before I made the poll, so it was inevitable :p
You can always not look at the extra pages and keep speculating :p
Regarding poll results, I’d be glad if these details could be worked into the story itself. I don’t tend to read much of authors’ blogs as I simply don’t have the time so I’d like if it would be a part of story, if not this chapter then perhaps the next.
They will come up in future chapters, but it might take a while. Not everything will be explained in the same amount of detail in both the chapters and the extra pages, but it should be enough to get you going.
Yeah….. Maybe using her strongest spell wasnt a good idea, well at least the rats are gone
“And that’s what counts!”
Kaya Romero – 2018
Also i notice that i messed up my name, instead of putting henry the hydra i put henry the dragon, sometimes it could be confusing to put my name correctly
*munches pizza*
Seems legit
*snickers*
Can I have a piece of that pizza? xD
*calls FNAF* ^_^”
Actually, that’d be interesting if the next installment has the mascots mass=produced to be home-delivery robots for pizza. Now you’re not safe even in your own home.
No one is. ._.
How am I somehow completely unsurprised by this? Couldn’t you have at least scaled down from fireBALL to just plain fire, Kaya? Save yourself some spells and the gold for repairs! Now roll a D8 to determine charisma (negotiation/diplomatic skills). xD Amazing work, Robin. I love the change in scenery. Feels a bit more homey to a dragon. I wonder if the twins feel the same way? Lastly, I hope Benji doesn’t have shiny pieces to represent the gold coins they find, or that Kai and Kaya haven’t developed the full on “stare at all treasure” dragon response. Keep up the awesome comic, Robin. See you next Monday.
You know, being the twins ARE supposed to be actual dragon-hybrid somethings…..this could very well end up going in a direction the GM doesn’t expect….
*imagines them helping the dragon beat the knight….*
No worries, Kaya only stares at chocolate and Kai can control himself xD
Their charisma will definitely be tested after this mission :p
She shall NOT! be trusted with such power in her side otherwise we might see dark times in front of us ( and by dark times i mean some property damage)
on the bright side, the explosions do shine a light into the darkness :p
Rats are very small ….. Come in T.E.S , Cleo : we’ll speak about it ^_^”
Too , i notice Rex and Cleo have switched their places during the “boooom” XD
And more …… I don’t know how Kaya has succeed to lift her mage pole without get Rex’s muzzle , but this last have to be careful : it’s behind his head now ^_^”
Cleo hasn’t seen a giant rat before.
Or her snake hybridness tells her they’re prey anyway so what’s the big deal xD
Cleo has obviously never seen The Princess Bride.
“Inconceivable!” Mind you, many young women I know (my students) do not know that book or movie.
There are people who don’t know either the movie or book!? Inconceivable!
You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means
Nope, she hasn’t seen that one. (neither do I, to be honest)
I highly recommend it! The movie is true enough to the book you can just watch that for the memes (not that the book isn’t good).
Alternatively, if you can YouTube almost every scene involving Inigo Montoya he’s pretty much a meme lord.
Quick, how many times was Inigo’s 3-sentance line said in the movie? In the book?
I hope Akiyama is fine , by the way ?
She is, this is a different building ^^
That’s good : i don’t think someone would enjoy to see her/his “cameoed” fursona disappear in an huge explosion ^_^”
But you’re wrong for the building , Robin : it’s not “this is” but “this was” …… Thanks to Kaya for it XD
It…could be worse. Kaya could’ve been a Wild Magic Sorceress. Although with results like this, it doesn’t seem to be all that different. ^^;
I think she’s wild enough as is, give her calm magic instead xD
Cleo: Hmm, let’s see. I cast Sleep on Kaya.
Kaya: Hey! Why would you do that?
Benji: Do you want to try for the saving throw?
They’re starting out much like a certain party I’ve played with.
were there good times ahead? xD
fair bit of xp there under old systems, given number of rats
I’d imagine she leveled up xD
Huh this is usaly the normal out come when I would play Shadowrun 3ed heck one time we blow out the supports for a muiltystory office building to kill 6 targets we got em worked just like we hoped it would ^_^b
Only played first edition. I remember that as the rules were written the dice pools were basically worthless. We had a lot of fun with that. The only thing adding more dice did was make the failures more frequent and spectacular. A minor modification took care of that and made the magicers and techheads usable. Another thing was that no matter how much you tried to work with the system what ever character class you choose the pure humans were always just a little better than any other race, and if you went for mage or shaman the difference wasn’t even funny. However never ignore the troll with a gyro stabilized minigun on a harness and a vibro axe as a side arm.
We usually planed for minimal exposure, but backed it up with massive amounts of overkill for when those plans failed, which they did more often than not. The poor GM’s were shocked at the ridiculous amounts of overkill we were willing to bring to the game, but at the same time we were never able to build up a decent cache. It’s hard to get rich when even highly armored and modified step vans tended to turn into flaming wrecks half way through a mission, and drones were as long lived as a three scoops ice cream cone served to a dragon. Eventually our rigger even stopped naming the toys…
Looks like this party is going to suffer from some of the same problems. This first mission might generate a negative cash flow once they’ve paid for the destruction. And as they have a Paladin in the party they can’t fall back on petty thievery or even leaving the town discretely in the middle of the night. Those Paladins tend to be annoyingly lawful, making life interesting for any thieves in the party. They do however make excellent meat shields once they feel the presence of Evil or see a monster.
See! destrustion is the answer 😀
Bet your decker just loved that. “See…I might have a bit of trouble getting the information out of the computer after it’s been pulverized.”
Why are there no pictures on your updated cast page?
I still need to upload those ^^
I remember we had once a party with full of spellcasters – and we begun our quest as we all standing below the gallows. About half hour later the whole village was nothing more just a big pile of ash… }:-)
One thing I have learned is that if the DM asks “Are you sure?”, you need to rethink your actions. Even more so if they ask more than once.
Be glad they ask that and don’t have you read the terms and conditions :p
You missed adding Hate to the cast page
I swear I wrote Nate but autocorrect hates me
Autocorrect had nothing to do with it, for it was I, the WordPress Comment Eating Beast, who vandalized your precious post. Bwahahaha! None shall ever be able to catch me, for I am more elusive than an intelligent, polite comment on an article about a divisive political topic!
*disappears into the Wild WordPress Woods*
Oh yeah, Nate, good call ^^
Oh, good job fixing it up, young lady!^^
Reminds me of the time they fixed Berlin. They just had to destroy 1 wall.
Actually I found out the hard way that you can use “grease” on the area, and the area becomes combustible.
reminds me of me and a party i knew. made the dm mad cause i was a level 2 mage and kept rolling a 20 so i ended up killing a purple worm with a 1d4 dagger. it was fun.
Exceptional work on the art for this page, Sensei. Lots of nice details packed into one page. I like how in just a few panels we get a view of the building’s exterior, interior, and the city at large, as well as some great character expressions. I like the half-timber building in panel 2, the sense of scale and depth in panel 3 (especially the rat crawling on the lantern), and the unique panel design with the lower left panels framing the 20 roll. Cleo’s expression in the last panel is hilarious.
I just hope that *really* was the last of the rat problem… Those rats don’t quite look natural (remind me of a certain Questor’s confrontation: http://www.rhjunior.com/tales-of-the-questor-0187/), and whereas they might have been contained before, Kaya’s “enthusiasm” might have inadvertently spread them throughout the entire town… Dun dun dun…
I was watching “The Gamers: Dorkness Rising” last night and the guy playing the magic-user used a “Level 4 spell” to destroy a level 0 NPC farmer, for fun. (He needed that spell later.) Immediately made me think of Kaya in this strip! 🙂 🙂 🙂
You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!
Excellent reference from The (original) Italian Job !
Kaya… just… nevermind.
Still better than when Lina Inverse saved a town from a dragon……
She also gave the town a nice new excavation site for a new lake.
May have involved the complete destruction of half the town in the process.
you know she just reminds me of natsu
Ahh, the traditional Murderhobo path. She’s taken the first step down the path that all D&D players do. Using excessive force on a situation where it was utterly unnecessary.
JoCrap would be proud
