“…looking out for you.” Or trying to, in her own peculiar ways. 😉 🙂
… Well, when a vulture is checking on you, it means that it expect that you going to die soon… So it’s not a reassuring thought. 😜
But Annabella is a -Romance- vulture! Does she mean Kai’s love life is about to go down in flames?? 8-o
It’s a first date, so the odds are pretty good the answer is yes.
To be clear, statistical anomalies are definitely a thing. Statistically guaranteed is a nonsense term. There are dozens if not hundreds of people alive today who met someone in another country prior to having any dating experience, had wonderful, flawless first date experiences which started off the only romantic relationship they’ve ever needed, and now they’re happily married to said person.
It’s just that’s out of billions of people.
Out of billions of people, millions have never even BEEN to other countries. How miserably pessimistic do you have to be to see a date in a WORK OF FICTION and start crunching the numbers just to assume that it’s not gonna work out? Like, you’re not even troping about funny disasters, you’re just being the punk who takes the joy out of it by pointing out that happy endings are unrealistic. It doesn’t achieve anything but make you look like a jerk.
Then Annabella leaves, thus Kai feels confident that he’s driven off any date peepers – thus leaving him oblivious to Kaya in a headband and left-arm gauntlet creeping along the rooftops behind them. At least until she blows her cover whispering “Kiss! Kiss!” in the middle of an emotional moment.
Near knows how to make Kai die;
just compliment the poor guy.
He’s cute but, really, he’s a mess
when compared to her in that dress.
There’s nothing like a cousin
when, around you she’s buzzin’
and releasing the tension with a tease
so Kai can, later, get more at ease.
Where will Near get her holiday pictures?
A beach of sand or a church with scriptures?
There’s talk he tells and talk she gives…
Is he going to learn just where she lives?
Diolch yn fawr iawn. As the week goes by, I anticipate your work, NEAR much as Robin’s.
Kai is fine as-is? Another good point to Near. I hope this goes well…
We could go both ways with Near’s home location. We could find out during the date, or, if Robin is REALLY EVIL we might have Kai NOT find out, and have him pining for her for the rest of the summer.
Then, on the first day of school she shows up at their lunch table with just “Hey.” or maybe a peck on the cheek.
I always thought that vultures would think carefully before they swoop down. After all they are rather heavy birds and have to get up again. 😉
I’m sure their date will go just fine. I feel that if Annabella gets further involved, something may go awry. So, the date begins?
Did you forget that at she already messaged some friends yesterday?
Her involvement didn’t even start.
Don’t you mean it had already started relatively* long time ago?
*In consideration to the time Near and Kai knows each other.
“You already look cute enough. No need to dress up”
DANG GIRL! That was so smooth i’m just sliding out of my chair!
Perfect response, expertly delivered. I have a feeling Near might have been on a few dates before. Still, she obviously likes Kai a lot, so I hope this ship sails.
Vulture Protection Services. Is that protection from vultures or being protected by Vultures? The latter sounds pretty concerning, as it reminds me of the vulture-centric Far Side comics, particularly one where a vulture drops a heavy object on someone to prevent them from reaching an oasis.
Near is right, Kai is quite cute. And Annabella is the nosy big sister/cousin who wants all the details and gossip. Not sure if calling herself a vulture that looks out for you sounds like a good thing, to me it comes off as a vulture following you and waiting until you croak…
I think Kai should’ve worn a bow tie, that would’ve gone well with Fancy Near; though since he’s weak to compliments and easily embarrassed, maybe he couldn’t handle what positive things Near would say if he wore one. Now, where will the happy couple head to first? And where is Kai’s biological other half (Kaya)?
I suppose you could get revenge on the vultures by taking a couple of Diclofenac’s, a prescription painkiller and anti inflammatory. Similar to aspirin, but no bleeding. Vultures so allergic that eating a body that was taking them will kill them. This has been a problem in India.
Wow, she even re-did her fingernails to be pink to match the dress! Nice!
I’m still on Team Cleo but I think Near just earned a point XD
Oh, I love Cleo, but Near is a class act. I’d recommend Nate for Cleo but it would probably end with Alex burying his body in a field somewhere.
Panel 1: Add a comma to “Oh”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRpq7o1mKXY&t=2s
OK, I’m starting to get really irritated by this silly nitpicking.
You’re saying that the proper punctuation here is “Oh, wow, Near” which a THIRD GRADER in the US would tell you is wrong.
Would you please stop? Can you? Are you getting some weird ego boost by correcting Robin? He’s creating a very nice comic with cool characters and a great storyline and you sit here constantly denigrating it with corrections that appear to be mostly wrong.
I apologize in advance to everyone else for my language, but fuck off already*.
*and no, there is no comma after “off”.
I’m starting to think it is the worst programmed grammar bot on the planet, made by someone who does not speak English on even a very basic level.
Everything jprime says is just wrong, I can’t understand how someone can go through life never having a sensible thought in his/her head…..
“his/her” isn’t inclusive to non-binary people, use “their” :3
I don’t mean to come off that way, the things I point out just don’t look right to me.
Stop looking. Or at least stop typing. You’re being annoying.
“Looks wrong to me“ very obviously does not mean “is wrong“ so just stop it.
Stick around, Jp. Part of it is that you’re looking to learn. Most of us are willing to teach if we think you’re wrong. And, on occasion, you’ve been correct.
My suggestion is for you to change your phrasing. It’s okay to ask whether there should be a comma somewhere. The problem is that you phrase your comments as imperative sentences. Saying “Add a comma here” sounds like a command instead of a suggestion, and some people get annoyed by the command-style phrasing.
I have a Russian wife, and this topic is something we’ve talked about; she often intends to ask a question, but she phrases it as an imperative. Used to annoy me a lot until she and I had a conversation about the topic, and now I understand her better.
So, for you, I suggest asking “Should there be a comma after , and why or why not?”
English is a complicated, clunky language with a lot of cobbled together grammar rules, a lot of exceptions, and a lot of “personal flavor/choice/style” stuff that individual people use. In my opinion, the most important part is understanding the intent of what’s written. The grammar rules come second, in my opinion.
Maan, if he’s so smitten already that Near calling him cute (which he undeniably is) causes that reaction, if she kisses him he’s probably going to explode.
…and it would be a very cute explosion.
Sounds dangerous considering all of that flammable liquid he contains.
Heh, yup!
near is a natural loser at those ugly christmas sweater contests, no matter what they wear, instead of the judges voting them the ugliest, they get down on one knee and propose
Nah, she will just look amazingly cute and sexy no matter how ugly the sweater.
I’m just curious; have we established what Near’s full name is? I’m really really hoping her middle name is Agnes…
…because I would 100% be a fan of Agni Kai!
The owner of the character lists her last name as “Near Velscave” (pronounced “Vel-sca-ve”) but he also lists a twin sister so I’m pretty sure Robin has a lot of leeway here.
Twin named “Far?” I can see a bunch of wordplay confusion when he first meets her, by surprise. 🙂
Actually, the twin is named “Csarcarim Velscave” but I’ve seen only one reference so I don’t know their status.
