“Benji ‘s trouble sence is tingling “
Phoebe?! Well, hello there! What brought those wings of fire to fly you this way? And what’s pissed you off?
Well, shouldn’t she have been at the signing? Troye (the real star) was.
As I understand it she was a side character in season 2.
She may have been having difficulty with the convention administrators. Troye seems to have their act together enough to ensure everybody complies with the convention rules, and her mythical nature proof probably passes muster, but to do that, much paperwork and possibly much testing would be needed.
Yes, I understand that it may seem like a hassle to confront the convention administration about something like that, but it’s far better to get that hassle out of the way up front rather than being thrown out of the convention hall because she literally cannot control when one of her feathers will fall out and combust. I mean, it’s possible to encourage it to happen, but discouraging it isn’t. That also probably means she was more or less ineligible for the talent contest. Yes, having the paperwork in order could prevent her from being disqualified during, but they probably wouldn’t be particularly keen on having a performer in that competition who could appear to fire code violate at any time, even if they knew it wasn’t an actual problem, because it could easily encourage someone like Kaya who easily could be an actual problem if she wasn’t careful.
So Amy and Nora are playing against each other? Interesting. Looking forward to the Battle of the Bunnies!
(P.S. i think you meant to say “prove” instead of “proof” in panel 5.)
Or drop “to”. Either one.
It’s a tournament. Unless there are many contestants, anyone who is hoping to win should expect to be playing against everyone else who has a good chance of winning. Amy is apparently expected to win, so if Nora wants to, she needs to be prepared for that battle.
Stepping back to our perspective, of course Amy will be a finalist. Whether the other finalist will be Nora or another cast member remains to be seen. It won’t be a throw away character, because that would be a lot of work for little payoff. Sure, I’ve read a comic that featured a couple of tournaments and didn’t have established characters win all of them, but they didn’t have a character who had a schtick of being lucky.
Uh, oh.
Does anyone sense burning desire?
There’s a bird on the deck
and it seems there’s looming fire.
She’s ready for little Amy
Her decks are built for war
but, after the fight to come
she might see what friends are for.
The cards are one the table
(and some, maybe, up some sleeve)
Nora and Benji will beat the best.
At least that’s what they believe…
That was awesome! You put out a great stuff every week, but this was next level.
Psst… ”The cards are one the table” … that should be ”The cards are on the table”, Sweetie…
(Sorry, I’m still on editor mode from helping Ica with his books…)
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Burning rivalry? Appropriate for phoenix. Lifelight, anyone?
Birb vs Wabbit vs Doggo, oh my!!!
Sounds like the card tournament is going to be fun.
I’m already imagining this playing out like Yu-Gi-Oh 🤣
Nora has a real competitive streak eh? Oh maybe just fixated on proving her cousin can be beat despite her luck.
Benji and a swarm deck? Looking at the events in Gamer Dragons, it would be funny if he ran a Sliver-turned-Xenomorphs deck.
Exploding feathers? Phoebe’s mood affects her spontaneous self combustion? Imagine what her abilities would be in Angry Birds…
Why does Benji refer to Nora’s deck as abominations? Are they that horrifying and/or unnatural? The Bunny of Doom plans to remove Amy’s greatest strength, but will that be enough to nerf the walking game breaker/cheese strategy? Although, if Nora wants to beat Amy in general, she can just challenge her to a physical activity, like a foot race or arm wrestling. I wonder if there is someone whom Amy’s luck cannot help defeat in these games…
Benji spots an angry little bird. Good thing Phoebe only bursts into flames when she sheds her feathers, otherwise she’d be burning up right now. As Kaya demonstrated in the last chapter, that wouldn’t end well for the little Phoenix here. So what will Benji do next? Will he approach the little firebird and ask what’s wrong?
Abominations, in this respect, likely refers to decks designed not to beat an opponent but to DESTROY them. They’re killer decks that give most players no chance at all.
Ah, thanks for the clarification. I’m not terribly knowledgeable about trading card games like these.
Well, it had been stated, that her luck is the opposite of Amy’s, so she needed to put together a deck, what doesn’t rely on luck as much and it can work with different combinations. Those decks also needs to be able to counter a wide area of enemy tactics at the same time, or easily fall for a table-wipe effect.
Uhmm Pannel Five – “To proof” should be “To prove” or “I just want proof”. =^^=
Damn, Nora is adorable. Benji is a very lucky guy.
I ship it :3!
Yknow, I wonder if hybrids sometimes exhibit any behavioral qualities of whatever animal they are. Like, if someone were to throw a ball or a frisbee disk or something, would Benji be compelled to chase and fetch it?
Only problem is this year Amy came prepared with THREE Blue-Eyes Whie Dragons.
Nora you are forgetting about a certain set of wildcards floating around the convention. If they are in the tournament, all bets are off as to who is going to win. Chances are that Phoebe is going to be in one of the wildcard’s friend radar, and that may just spell her doom.

Nora looks better with her hair down.
Interesting Fact: Bird is the Word.

Now I can’t get the image of Amy running a joey wheeler type deck. Using dice, coins, and sheer grit to luck into victories.
Thought it was a Magic the gathering deck. Because mentioned a rabbit deck.I have Green, white deck of elves and rabbits. I named it the Long Ears deck. It’s pretty effecti
Odd: most card game tournaments I’ve heard of require you to submit a deck list at registration. Having multiple decks and swapping them between opponents is more of a casual Friday Night Magic kinda thing.
I have heard of at least one card game tournament that allows one to register a second deck. The option was not mentioned up front, but if one asked about it, the process to do it wasn’t hard. They just did not want to have to go through the process for people registering several decks just because they could. Also, I seem to recall that one needed one deck to be the primary, and have an explicitly stated criteria for when they’d change out the deck. Examples they gave of those criteria included “after the first game”, “against this one player”, and “after the first defeat”. Other criteria they approved included “I want to swap decks after each game” and “I want to play my second deck if I’m up against an opponent who played a permissions deck last game”. The one criterion I recall that they rejected was someone wanting to select their second deck if their current opponent was playing a specific type of deck.
Basically, they wanted to be able to know exactly what decks were in each game without having to talk to the players about it.
I do not know if that is at all common. That’s the rule at the local bookstore where I would go to play MtG in a tournament if I were going to do that. They have weekly MtG tournaments and weekly Yugi OH! tournaments, and that second deck rule apparently applies for both games.
I have not heard of anyone attempting to register three decks. It feels like it’s difficult enough to build a good deck most people aren’t going to attempt to maintain three good decks. Also, if I’m not mistaken, one loses access to ones deck between registering and just before the tournament, so that further discourages people from registering too many decks.
To be clear, I’ve never gone through that process. I have a flatmate who has played both games competitively who does tournaments there every so often.
Be careful, Robin. If you make this game too cool, merch will be called for.
And if you oblige? Kazuki Takahashi, as an example.
You’ve been warned, good sir, that the cards could take over…(mostly kidding, though)
Kaya Romero, Legendary Dragon Hybrid
5/6
When Kaya Romero is in play, all other players must tithe chocolate to the controller of the cart once per turn. If no chocokate is availabke, that player skips their next draw step.
