This is largely what I was talking about last week, except that I had less than no interest in the competitive TCG scene even when I was an active player. I was just having fun with people local to me and it STILL ran me a lot of cash trying to have that fun.
Yeah, that’s how hobbies like this get really expensive really quick! At least if you want to be competitive. Kaya you may be better off sticking to music and singing.

True, but they could be cosplaying as a character who is a monk. Maybe they really like the Disney Robin Hood Friar Tuck (who wasn’t a fox, but no reason that should stop a fox from cosplaying as them).

My experience with this method varied greatly depending on the specific type of challenge. A novice might find the initial steps much more daunting than an experienced individual.

The worst part of it is the fact that by the time you built up a competitive deck, you picked up many booster packs and you’ve invested hundreds of dollars, six bucks at a time. It sneaks up on you.
And then when you go away to college, your mom finds them under your bed and throws them out.
Fox the mothers who do that. Parents who think they get to decide that their child has “outgrown” a hobby and throw things away while the child is away from the house deserve to die in a fire.
I suppose the companies need to avoid inflating the prices so much that counterfeiting becomes too widespread.
A fox that is holy because they got shot and have a hole in them? Wouldn’t that make them a “holey fox?” Or a fox tipping with the angels?
Even though she doesn’t seem to have any decks of her own, Nomi is well informed about deck building and how the card makers make money off of you. She must be doing her research. Though some people might not spend a lot of money on the cards and still build a strong deck thanks to luck (looking at you, Amy). Nora must’ve spent a lot of money for her deck, just to get the right cards…
Kaya seems pretty invested in the card game, I wonder if she’s gonna start playing it. Though she probably won’t have too much money to spend on cards, given how much her allowance depends on whether or not she raises her family’s insurance costs. What made Kaya evoke a holy fox? Did she see the price of a really good card set? A collaboration deck? A chocolate themed deck? And will a Holy Fox take notice of this phrase?

Yeah, TCG costs can add up quickly and the some cards have reached ridiculous prices.
But as long as you are just playing for fun and aren’t too competitive, playing with decks built from random booster packs can be fun, too. There are even some tournament modes where you have to build a deck from freshly opened boosters (yes, you have to pay for those packs as part of the tournament fee).
Another thing I saw now and then are players (especially minors) who just put random cards into sleeves and then put a printed out version of a card in front or even just a piece of paper with handwritten text what it was supposed to be. That wouldn’t work in a tournament, but can be used when you are just playing for fun and don’t want to spend much money.
The kicker is also the really expensive alt arts are usually uglier than their standard art or other less expensive alts. I don’t get why ghost rares are so sought after other than “it’s rare” they’re basic line work with fooling that makes it hard to see any real detail. My game of choice, Digimon, had a habit with their super expensive alts to show less and less of the digimon in question. With the highest price tag being for basically a black and white closeup of half the face. At least it’s not that expensive of a game if you stick to standard arts, I think the most expensive standard I’ve seen was a $30 secret rare, and below that singles usually cap at $5 for the rarer ones, with almost everything else being $1 or less.
