Looks like Cleo really appreciates what Kaya did for her. She also doesn’t think much of privacy it seems.

Thanks for voting!
Hmmmm… interesting. Sometimes I wonder if that girl isn’t a tiny part dragon herself. Definitely has a bit of the personality. (Not to mention the fact that “privacy” isn’t in the dictionary of about 70% of dragons… when it comes to those that they have a potential crush on. I’m not going to be the one to start any comments shipping “Clai” though.) Oh well. As always, keep up the good work Robin! Can’t wait to see the match!
The match is closing in, just a couple more pages ^^
Cleo is definitely not part dragon though :p
Didn’t think so. Not physically at least. I still think she’s got a bit of the attitude.
I think it’s just Kaya rubbing off on her
Possible. Definitely possible.
Slight graphical observation: the first two frames could do with being more obviously seperate, the first time I read through it I thought that Kai and Cleo where on the same side of the door already…
Maybe have the walls at obviously different angles? Or perhaps just show the door in both frames. Or of course you could just have it as one frame with Kai’s voice coming through the door.
I had been thinking about how to do these two panels. Originally I had the dialogue seperated into the two panels and Kai answering through the door in the second panel, but I opted for this option since it made more sense to me. I didn’t think about how clear the seperation would be, since to me, the artist, it looked pretty clear. That’s of course because I drew it, so I’m glad you tell me this so I can keep it in mind in the future. Always learning ^^
Glad to help.
I’m also glad I didn’t go with my original coment, which finished with something along the lines of “I’m not sure how you’d make it clearer…”
I think the problem is a combination of the word bubbles over the comic border and the way the two panels flow too naturally into one-another. The word bubbles cover up the comic border (which just happens to also be white) and makes it hard to notice there’s a separation. Combine that with how the angle in panel 1 isn’t steep enough to think the door is out-of-place and that the door fits perfectly in panel 2 and it all just bleeds together.
You definitely would not notice it if you draw first and add dialog later.
Going along with Autoskip’s suggestion, if you rotated the “camera” 90 degrees (roughly speaking for panel 1) so it was a side view for both panel 1 and 2 and made the door itself the comic border instead (and thus also make the border not-white) the separation would be clearer.
Congratulations on 100 pages.
Once again I really like the details like the ear blush and mechanics of the pants and underpants for the tail. I wonder if that belt just opens in the back or both front and back. I also wonder sometimes how they get tail holes in the pants to the exact size so the tail fits through but also nothing else shows trough. Jeans aren’t that elastic. Maybe this was already discussed in earlier comments but I don’t remember.
Storywise I understand that Cleo argues that she does the things for Kaya, but I in place of Kai I would also feel like I would her because in effect she helps him a lot and not his sisters. I am split about the jersey. On one side it might boost Kai’s morale, but on the other hand it’s not really recommended to switch to clothes you aren’t used to right before the big game.
I always wondered how you wear pants when your tail is…that large…..
🙂
Thanks ^^
I would think they have the tail holes in different sizes, so they order the size they need. The belt system ensures a good fit because it’s adjustable.
hey at least you won’t be SHORT anything now 😉
whoops i forgot a word in that sentence
So you were one word short?
yep
Oho, short jokes :p
So; does that mean the jokes are about short people?
…or are the jokes themselves short? 🙂
Cleo breaks the privacy rules
to see the flame go all the way up.
A smile plays on her thin lips
as she sees the half-dressed pup.
She’s still buying her friends,
letting her money do the talking;
a factor Kaya won’t approve of;
a truth she’ll soon be stalking.
Kai won’t notice she likes him,
guys are never really in that frame.
All he sees is what’s ahead –
His friends, the Wolf and the game.
Nice as always, Welsh Rat ^^
Happy 100th! 😀
Curious fact: If each strip was a verse, you could compose the ’99 bottles on the wall’ song.
Take one down, pass it around, now there’re 98 bottles of beer on the wall ♪
Thanks ^^
Well, I don’t think you want me to take the strips down one by one though xD
That would be like watching your doom slowly get closer. 😀
I love how Kai is panting him up quickly when he understands Cleo is in the room (third panel)
But …… Cleo gifting him when she owes to Kaya ………. Is this would be a beginning of crush between them ? ^_^”
I’d say fan service but this is more Cleo service.
Haha, yeah, Cleo got a good look :p
Well, you gotta cover yourself :p
It’s Kai’s turn to show his undies, given that Kaya’s flashed hers quite a bit. Maybe Cleo should have sent in Kaya to give Kai the jersey, he’d probably be less embarrassed but it was his twin sister seeing him in his tighty whities since they’re probably used to seeing each other like this… Oh, wait… I forgot that Cleo got this for Kai without Kaya’s knowledge. On a lighter note, we can kind of see what type of underwear Kai prefers, he should hurry up and change so Cleo doesn’t see his briefs (or boxer briefs, can’t really tell what type they are without the waistband but given how close it looks to his skin, briefs/boxer briefs are a safe bet), he probably should have changed his pants before taking off his shirt so he could have extra modesty. Will you be showing how the various types of Hybrid clothing works and will we be seeing Kai model more of his underwear for us in the future (and the rest of their friend group? Well, apart from Kaya, we’ve seen her undies before. She needs to be more careful when wearing a dress or skirt.)?
Kai, you doesn’t owe her. The payment was already payed when Cleo entered the room. And i noticed the blush on your face on the 3.panel… Even the end of your ears turn to slightly red! xD
Personally i wouldn’t take a “peeping” like that seriously. I i go to the strand, they could see more, and in a better light too.
With swim/beach clothes it’s a curious thing, mostly with girls but to a lesser extend also boys. Wear clothes that cover minimal skin at the beach? No problem. Get seen in underwear that has several times the fabric? Big problem. It’s seemingly mostly a state of mind.
And I doubt that Cleo had any bad intentions. She problably didn’t even remember in that moment that he could be partly undressed. And she seems to have no problems with seeing him in that state. There was no blush on her end and we didn’t any screem from her like it could have happened in other comics.
Its probably a reptile thing.
Yeah.
Reptile.
Maybe you’re on to something here :p
It’s part of being a teenager to be somewhat shy ans self-concience about their body, so even a ‘peeping’ like this would get some reaction of shyness.
One Hundred! Congratulations! I’ve been reading all sorts of web comics and outside of Questionable Content, not many of them keep going when they update beyond a no-weekly schedule. This is one of a handful(clawful?) worth continuing.
Thank you! It’s great to hear I’m doing great ^^
Wow, Cleo really takes this paying back thing seriously, especially considering that Kaya burnt $100 and got her detention. She may still act cool and collected, but the friend thing must really mean a lot to the snake girl.
And yes, here are the shippers. It was inevitable really. While there is no actual proof yet, I have half expected Cleo to get a crush on Kai since she became friends with Kaya. Partially because most teen storeys have some form of teenage crush, and because Cleo seems the type to develop feelings for the first nice guy who shows her attention who’s not out for her money.
But time will tell.
For some reason, I auto translated Cleo into saying “B-Baka” in the second last panel.
She never had a real friend before, so she really wants to make sure she’s a good friend as well. She just has to learn that she doesn’t have to spend money to do so :p
The shippers can go full steam if they want, but I’m not changing anything to my story xD
Thanks, Robin! I do prefer to read -your- version of the story. 🙂
Same, but that won’t stop me trying to guess what comes next.
Same here too! I’ll -try-. Luckily I’m just not very good at guessing plots. 🙂
I was thinking of Robin’s comment about not letting the shippers wants change his story. 🙂
I’ll personally broadside any ships I encounter, and send them down to Davy Jones’s locker.
I think suddenly about something : in clothes shops , is there an hybrid clothes department or parents are “forced” to make it themselves ?
I think think in big cities or cities with a high number of hybrids there might be department stores that offer clothes for more common hybrid types. Maybe there is even something like a tail size on labels. But I guess the place to go might be specialized online stores that have no problems with send-back if it doesn’t fit. And I imagine the appearance of hybrids gave customization and tailor-made stores a rise. Those might also be connect to ‘regular’ clothes stores. But customaziation isn’t cheap so I imagine many parents have to be crafty if they want to save money, especially in the phases when the children grow fast.
It started out with no one knowing what to do and trying to fix it themselves. Soon a couple handy mothers started a webshop making specific clothing items and more and more came. Seeing the money in it, bigger businesses arrived in the city and now you have hybrid specialty boutiques and everything. It’s quite a booming bussiness, just like regular clothing.
Idk why but a feel Cleo is still not good
I think Cleo is basically good; she just has to overcome the wrong things she learned while being “friends” with those who were only after her money.
She’s learning. She still has a habit of throwing money around. Habits are hard to break. She will get it eventually :p
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Well, Robin; that was a wonderful first 100! Now I am soo looking forward to the “200 Party”! 🙂 …or is that “500 Party”?
Let’s go for a 1000 party while we’re at it xD
Although that would take a while, a long while :p
18 years, at least, assuming at least 50 strips per year. (One per week with two weeks off per year)
You heard that, folkes! Be sure and RSVP for the 1,000 Party right away 🙂
I do believe this constitutes the first fan service of the comic (canon anyway, the Valentine’s Gamer Dragons comic being the first otherwise #^_^#). Here’s hoping for more cheese/beefcake at future milestones. >:3
Also have been curious about how clothes with tails work since seeing that Cleo wears a micro dress.
It’s a coincidence that it happened on page 100 though, I didn’t plan for it xD
It was also not really meant as fanservice, just a regular clothes changing scene. I was actually thinking it might even be a little too much, but then I was like, naaah, they can handle this xD
Eh, no worse than a beach scene. Besides, somewhere you have character models of the twins in less.
Dude… they’re 14.
An I the only one that lives the small detail that the belt has two latches. XD
Thanks, I like the design as well. ^^
About clothes customization, it made me remember the manga ‘Centaur no Nayami’ (also released under der english title ‘A Centaur’s Life’) which got an anime adaption this season. In that world no ‘simple’ humans exist, just several races of demi-humans like the name-giving centaurs, cat people, angels (just in looks, no supernatur powers, even the halo is just hair), dragon-kin (look more like demons/succubi), snake people and many more. I feels that the author did also put some noticeable thought into details starting from how your wear/fix glasses when you don’t have ears on the human position but cat ears on top of your head, over holes for wings up to cars that are made so centaurs can sit in and drive them and have special seatbelts to fix the horse part of the body. Laws for race equality also come up now and then.
If you deceide to check it out I just want to give a fair warning that in some of the chapters the story becomes somewhat weird.
I think Kai didn t realize that he just did some fanservice for her. Usually girls are one or two years ahead at that age, though.
But boys are generally a bit slow to understand being object of some girls interest or fantasies.
Wow, great share! Cheers.
Cleo, you should probably knock before barging into the men’s locker room. You don’t know who or what could be in there. She seems rather happy to be owing Kaya something, though her smile reads revenge in my head.
Now the tail clashes with the butt zone. To quote, “What is this sorcery?”
Tail physics is what it is :p
