Lizzie joins the warpath
as Kai dons the clobber.
Cleo’s quite a lady
or you’d see her slobber(!)
Shut up, Nate, and listen;
your friend is in the game
and, if you’ll let her talk,
she’ll put you in the frame.
Do Dragons feel the heat?
I think Rex needs to know.
But, before that, onwards!
Let’s get on with the show!
Had Nate’s number, good! Now they’ll be on the lookout and ready! And of course Nate had to be Nate when answering his phone! XD
Chef Kai looking good! I imagine that Rex and Nate if they stay on as employees will get some nice uniforms as well.
Nate has done a kindness, and now that kindness will be rewarded.
Elizabeth was mistaken in her treatment of Cleo, and she has been allowed to atone.
Larissa refuses to own up to her actions, and so she will suffer for it.
Robin, I love your refusal to burden this story with cynicism. Please keep it up.
Kai: “The chef’s hat isn’t just a fashion touch, it’s required to keep hair out of the food.”
Nate: “Speaking of keeping things out of the food, should we be worried about the anime sparkles?”
Rex: “That, and shouldn’t the kevlar vest be under the jacket and cover both sides of the body?”
Kai: I’m cooking, not working security, especially at that level!
Soon as Nate gets off the phone, that’s likely to change.
Glad Liz is taking this seriously enough to warn them. Kai does look good in his chef outfit too.
When did Liz get Nate’s number? Liz is a good person at heart, it’s just the friends she surrounded herself with were not as good at heart, there’s still time for them to turn their lives around but it will take something more drastic than their last encounter with the law (and their parents will have to take the problem seriously).
I look forward to seeing some more hybrids.
Nate must have given his number to her after their talk in the museum.
That’s my thinking as well. Good thing too that he did.
I knew it! She was the spy all along! In the palor, with the sundae no less!
#Clue ?
#SpyClue!
I like Rex comment about the heat.
He has fur on his whole body, so my guess is it protects him pretty well against the cold and then he never needs winter clothes. On the opposite, he suffers quickly in the heat. So when he sees someone well covered, he tends to forget people with no fur (here with scales) fear less hot temperature.
What is hair, but fur?
To be fair, the twins only seem to have it on their heads, at least as far as parts shown in the comic.
It’s probably more to the point that they’re dragons, so heat? Whatever. There’s probably a limit to their heat resistance, but kitchen heat’s certainly a non-issue. Whether Kai could get a burn from the kitchen stove is more up to question, but I feel like it would be at least difficult for him to get a stove burn, if it is at all possible.
The ensemble isn’t (just) for heat protection, but spill protection. Some of the things you cook with in high-end restaurants aren’t the sort of things you want to get on your body, whether for safety or just because they’re uncomfortable as frick.
Daniel here. DTIBA is on the mark here. Learnt a little bit of cooking in school, plus I talk to some cooks at work, and chef’s clothes have a practical design. The apron is the 1st line of defence from hot oil/water/sauce spills which can and will scald (liquid type burns) you rather badly. The shirt is designed to literally be torn off IMMEDIETLY in the case of burning/scalding material getting past the apron and onto either the shirt or worse, YOU! The buttons aren’t just flat disks like normal buttons, instead they have a flat disk which goes on the inside of the shirt, a 2 centimetre rod which goes through the button holes on BOTH layers you’re connecting then a ball which is what holds it together while allowing it to be pulled apart in an emergency…
A nearby water supply (bottles/drinking fountain/tap and cups) keep them from overheating. The Twins can be burnt, Word Of God is they have heat RESISTANCE but not IMMUNITY – They can hold their hands over a candle/match flame for around 30 seconds before it starts getting too hot & burns them. And still being Human (Hybrid yes, but still Human) they would overheat if their internal temperature gets too high, though they MIGHT have a slightly higher tolerance. I wouldn’t send them to work at a blast furnace without the full heat resistance suit though :P. They just have much better protection against localized overheating causing thermal damage than the rest of us…
We know that their skin and mouths are somewhat resistant to local, temporary and superficial heating, such as from their own fire or spilled hot chocolate. Such events don’t affect the body temperature noticeably.
Wearing too much in hot weather is a completely different matter. There is so far no indication that the twins tolerate a raised body temperature better than a normal mammal does. They are mostly human after all. Until Robin says otherwise, I assume that Kai will get a heat stroke like anyone else if he can’t get rid of his waste heat.
You can hold a 42 °C warm object in your hand even if you’re not a dragon hybrid. It will feel warm but it won’t harm you. If your internal organs reach 42 °C on the other hand, that’s a heat stroke or extreme fever, and you’ll be very sick.
They have a strip of hair down their back and tail as well.
Wait wait wait…. armored? Did they hire the A-Team to “modify” the food truck? That would be awesome!!
And Lizzy has learned quickly to tell Nate to “shut up”, she must have been trained offscreen by Rex. (or maybe it just comes naturally to everyone who has met him)
Now I kind of want to see a classic A-Team food truck episode. Armored trucks, improvised gas burner flame throwers, bad guys dripping head to toe with condiments…
Now you got me humming the theme song!
I lean towards the latter on Nate.
For those who don’t know the tune, Daniel the Human taught me “Google-Fu”… 😛
https://youtu.be/wyz_2DEah4o
Enjoy 😛
They wouldn’t need to, Cleo’s dad probably has arms manufacturers on speed dial. We don’t know what software he wrote specifically…the food truck might still have the James Bond option package.
Just a kid making something up. Harmless fun in this case.
Alt-text: “Please read the fine /print/.”
Jesse’s Adventure, panel 4: “Now that /we’re/ fused…”
True. Could also be “we’ve”. 🙂
Wow, the chef uniform is really looking good on Kai! :O 😍
He should wear this at school too XD
Nate’s back! I love his sense of humor.
Kai looks pretty sharp/not too shabby.
Well , that’s not over : Larissa can come back to surprise Lizzy and “steal” her phone to stop her to warn the team
But , Lizzie calling Nate in place of Cleo ; so , she’s not the “Her” as i was theorizing ……… Who is this “Her” ? A future shard in Larissa’s plan ? Is it Viper ? …….. I’d love to see Larissa have to deal with Drago ^_^
Food critic? A Human who looks normal, but then complains loudly online about every little problem with a food place? Tho I have heard some say nice things, might be the type Cleo called…
I am thinking that Cleo was referring to a health inspector. They need to give the okay before you can start serving the public.
That’s a possibility . But such person would be come to inspect the truck the day before , and not the day of the festival ……. ??
Depends on how busy she got and when the trucks were ready for inspection. She may be coming over to check all the trucks at the festival in one sweep, which would not be possible until everybody is there, so she might show up a few hours before.
I worked in a concessions wagon one summer; there are multiple inspections. There’s one before you can get the wagon/truck licensed; there are random inspections, and there are other regularly scheduled inspections. Failing any would get your license denied, suspended, or revoked.
Good decision, Liz!
Kai needs to tuck his hair inside the chef’s hat so the hat can serve its purpose.
Armored food trucks for feeding soldiers on the battlefield? Or does the food truck rally sport tend to devolve into motorized food fights? Food trucks peppering each other and lobbing sugar bombs?
“Chocolate frost sugar bombs?” 🙂
“frosted”.
You’re right; I failed to properly proofread. 🙂
Nothing can stand up against muffins of doom.
Have you heard of The Tick?

Beware the Breadmaster… 😛
Except… “CUPCAKES of BLISS!” 😉
You are getting Precocious in your replies…
Dwarf Battle Bread
Battle bread and muffins of doom are small fry compared to the taste explosion of an Italian antipasta dish.
And let’s not forget the swordfish.
If you haven’t watched this yet, you NEED TO!

Our foe is not thinking things through…her attack item isn’t confusable with the ingredients…the most she could achieve would be a temporary effect!
You’d be surprised how effective a social media attack can be. May not be too effective against an established restaurant, but one that has not even started and is struggling… Could provide just enough doubt to convince people to eat elsewhere, dropping profits just enough to ruin them.
A temporary effect?
Prosecutor: Miss L, a minor of 16 years of age, is hereby charged with causing a public health hazard, vandalism, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault, 3 counts.
Judge: How does defendant plead? Didn’t I see you before? What did you throw this time? Not another carved stone ball?
Prosecutor: Fish heads, your honour.
Oops, I forgot the closer for “temporary.” She can be put in a youth correctional facility until her 21st birthday. That’s the rule in my jurisdiction, at least. Personally, I would recommend community service, like cleaning up the mess she made and a few more hours of cleaning things up to help her understand the error of her ways.
No. No Community service. Lobbing a large rock at someone is already assault with a weapon, attempted murder if it was a head shot. NOW it’s delivering a noxious substance. Food poisoning can and has resulted in deaths before. All to try to destroy a business because she is a petty sack of shit. She’s burned ALL her strikes.
Depends on how annoyed the judge is. The smell would warn off most people, so food poisoning is not a credible threat.
A chef’s hat isn’t just for style or keeping hair out of food. It’s also designed to help keep the chef’s head cool in a hot kitchen.
Heat rises, so the heat from the chef’s head goes up into the poofy part of the hat, which is larger to be able to radiate heat more. Also, white tends to reflect better, though in a diffuse fashion, so radiated heat heading towards the hat is reflected off.
I once sat “listening” to someone go on about this for upwards of ten minutes, so it’s probably more involved than this. Or maybe he was just talking history or something.
Just to be clear: I don’t think Kai needs the thermal relief that a chef’s hat provides. But that Rex thought that the hat would make him hotter in the kitchen rather than cooler suggests Rex hasn’t worn a chef’s hat much. I admit, that does seem to match what we’ve been shown of his character.
If it’s not basketball or something cute and fluffy I doubt it will be easy to get Rex to focus on it for very long
That would help explain his low math mark and why Nate is tutoring him.
YES! Calling in the big guns. So glad Liz is making a stand and actually taking action.
I was afraid that she would just follow her friends and just be that person who just constant nags at them to stop, while not making any difference, and who may still take action to ‘protect’ them from consequences, believing that she can still save them.
But no, she actually stands apart and calls Nate. Which is what I hoped she would do anyway.
I feel like Larissa cut Elizabeth off too easily. Maybe the fish head/gut mix isn’t the real plan, but the real plan is based on the reaction that the twins and their friends/father have to finding out?
That would suggest that Larissa knows Liz is in contact with them.
Which is highly unlikely, considering that all signs point to Larissa expecting Liz to side with her.
Well like I said on a previous comic Larissa’s plan may change based on what she sees when she gets to the food truck. With the way things are set up there she may not have a good opportunity to add her “special ingredients” to hers and Dinah’s order. Their food is also likely being brought out on plates which means it will be in plain view as it’s being brought out meaning other people may see it and smell it before it arrives making what Larissa plans on doing harder to pull off because others could easily dispute it. With the way the tables are set up it also be quite hard for Larissa to add those ingredients without being observed too. Now add in that Nate and the others are being warned by Lizzy and they now have an opportunity to run some countermeasures before Larissa arrives. I suspect Nate may be busy taking pics of happy customers and their food and posting it to social media, building up the food trucks rep before Larissa can even try her plan. Larissa may just have to leave the food truck frustrated and try to do something else to get revenge.
I almost feel like the “Italian colors” comment would be funnier without the little apron. I never realized it before, but the twins already match as long as they’re wearing white. Green scales + red hair. xD Also, I’m glad to see that my prediction appears to have been right. Larissa doesn’t seem to plan ahead enough to consider that Liz might have gone to warn them behind her back. I already think Nate or another patron would have seen through her plan on its own, but with them knowing it‘a coming the odds of her managing to pull it off seem practically nonexistent. Now only time will tell if my second prediction was right and those fish heads end up on Larissa herself somehow. It’s been a pleasure to read as always Robin. Keep up the good work, and as always, stay awesome!
Good point about the colors. 🙂
Since we don’t really want to destroy anyone’s life, even someone like Larissa, having the potion backfire sounds like a desirable outcome. Points if they taste the food and like it first.
Rex ain’t wrong about the heat. I was a cook in the military. When we cooked in the field, it could easily reach 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) in the kitchen trailers. And that was in Minnesota in the woods. Lots of trees and shade. (Along with the occasional bear.)
SO glad to see Lizzie (not McGuire) telling Nate what and who to look out for! I just hope we DON’T see something interrupt her!
In what universe was that extra identifier necessary?
An idea for some publicity for the food truck. Have Kai demonstrate ‘genuine dragonflame broiled food.’ That would certainly make their truck stand out from all the others. They might even make the news. (As long as they can keep Kayla from setting things on fire.
There would certainly be a fairly low limit on how much fire they can use at one time. Also, there may be an odor or taste.
She got lucky with just a suspension with her last stunt, if it wasn’t a school field trip her actions could have gotten her in alot worse trouble but now she is planning on doing something worse and without the buffer of school she will be on the hook for possible charges of fraud, defamation of character, causing loss of earnings and financial income for the dragon family, she could go to juvie for that, i really hope her ego is ready for those kind of consequences.
Once again, Larissa has made a huge tactical blunder in her revenge (no, not taking revenge in the first place, that’s a different blunder, the blunder is leaving behind the group conscience). Alas, it appears that Larissa is unable to see that she’s one of her own worst enemies, as her failure to listen to and empathize with other people has led to her latest downfall. May the Dragons have mercy on her twisted, shriveled excuse for a soul (if she has one), because the law and the Reaper won’t have much.
Kai must really be excited, Kaya level even, if he’s wearing such a fancy uniform for just cooking in a food truck. He could have gone with a more basic uniform for his family’s restaurant, the whole chef’s outfit with toque and Italian flag-colored apron seems a bit over the top for this type of venue. His choice in uniform may help get attention for Due Draghi due to its inherent professional appearance, but I don’t think that was what Kai had in mind, he probably wanted to dress and feel like a chef. You can tell by the sparkles he’s giving off, he looks so adorable and handsome (I’m sure Cleo agrees, I wonder if any girls will give him their phone numbers…), make sure to take lots of pictures of Kai on the job, his mom would appreciate it!
Having her call Nate instead of running a beeline to the group is a, in my opinion, smart move. If she ran to them, the group wouldn’t hear her out, but if she tells Nate, who in turn inform the group and the Adults, they would be on high alert and DEFCON 1 on focus onto those two ladies.
Well if pretty sure the group would hear her out but it is a smart move for other reasons.
1. She doesn’t know where the truck is set up, just that it will be in the festival area.
2. It allows her to warn them well in advance of Larissa arriving.
3. Removes the possibility of running into Larissa & Dinah before she can arrive and deliver her warning.
