I can honestly can’t blame the Polar Bear for questioning her about it being a Faux Italian. Since many who don’t know Italian try to make Italian food.
She’s after the authentic experience ^^
Would have been funnier if Kaya had gotten offended and started cursing her out in Italiano.
With Kai blushing furiously and blatantly faux “translating”.
“She’s….very upset.”
Random Turtle Hybrid: *After estimating what the gist of Kaya’s tirade was* “Do you eat chocolate with that snout?”
One doesn’t NOT mess with Italian food.
Doesn’t not? So they DO mess with it? :p
Lobbing Garlic Bread at family is fun.
I have to try that some time!
Plus it’s a good way to find out if any of them are secretly vampires.
I just saw that, woops. One Does Not, is what I meant. But I’m sure everyone got what I meant… I hope.
Well that’s great to hear that Clem already likes Italian food! That ought to help with any reviews she posts online for her fans! If she really likes it maybe she’ll be visiting Marco’s restaurant when he’s got it opened.
At least there will be air conditioning inside the bricks and mortar restaurant.
As long as the “authentic Italian” experience isn’t hot and/or muggy, little miss polar bear should be happy by the looks of things…
It’s nice to pay your debts, my dear,
so they don’t just hang over you;
but I feel she’ll not hang with you
after she’s gone and seen this through.
The star is visiting the truck,
hopefully before the fish heads –
or is Nate going to block that plot
and rip the evil pair to shreds?
Don’t rub it in, dear Cleo;
you could add to your group of friends.
Only if you treat her right.
Or your hope for alliance ends…
Oh I hope Clementine becomes a regular at the restaurant. And Troye with his dance crew is adorable!
I think Kaya just sold the establishment to a big-ticket patron without realizing it. Genuinely authentic cultural cuisine is more and more a rarity these days, so fully authentic cuisine done in that culture’s traditional style is so beyond a treat it’s hard to properly say what to call it. That said, cultural restaurants are practically an experience of the culture they are of before you even get to the food, and then the whole experience is enhanced when you do get the food, they compliment each other and elevate each other in ways that can’t be quantified.
Granted, the actual establishment still needs a bit of work to get it diner ready, and even more to infuse the atmosphere and environment and vibe their dad is going for. Although, I think Kaya has probably done a decent job of providing potential investors to the establishment to help with the finance side of things to make that a bit easier.
Quick thought: what if Benji and Jin get back to the food truck at the same time as Kaya, Cleo, and Clem? Thinking more about Jin meeting Clementine: how would Jin react to meeting a celebrity? What if they all shared a meal together? Benji being incredulous at getting to have lunch with a celebrity, Kaya being the happy chatterbox, Jin being quiet and shy, Cleo being happy that things are working out so well. Ooh, who would serve them: Rex or Nate? That could make things interesting!
I had a good laugh at “Instawham”. What the service does isn’t entirely clear, but you can be sure it’s really fast. Just push the button, and wham – instant … something.
I took it as a thing that is legally different from Instagram.
Kaya, your lovable clueless yet friendly nature has possibly won her family restaurant a very powerful regular. Mr. Marco makes his own pasta from scratch? That’s pretty awesome! I tried making noodles from scratch once, but it was a bit of a disaster given I was using older tools and I didn’t get the ingredients right… I called it about Cleo’s plan regarding miss LeBeau and so did many others. The question is if Cleo already knew that Clementine loves authentic Italian cuisine or something as this a happy coincidence?
Yes, Clementine likes Italian food! A sincere endorsement by someone who actually likes something is leagues above a token yea-say from someone who’s fulfilling a contract. Cleo’s favour might have gotten Clem here, but if she already enjoys Italian food, you know she’s gonna sing honest praises about Due Draghi.
And if she enjoys the food enough, who knows? She might visit Due Draghi once it opens for real, and THAT is gonna be a blessing and a half.
So, you mean the difference between;
*Robotic, blank face* “This food is really good. You should try it.”
…and…
*Believably happy face* “Hey, check this out, this is actually really good!”
…is if they already like that kinda thing? I gotta remember that. Seems people don’t like my cooking attempts. I’m still new to having these “taste bud” things, so my attempts don’t always turn out well…
…Or edible…
…Or non-toxic…
Not necessarily if they ALREADY like it, but if they GENUINELY like it. In this case, the fact that Clementine already likes Italian food does mean that she’ll genuinely like a meal at Due Draghi, but that’s not a prerequisite. The important thing is that she’s not just shilling a token reference; she’ll be able to give specific praise regarding WHAT about Due Draghi’s food makes it good, instead of just saying “yeah, go get some” because she’s being asked to.
Also, don’t worry about your cooking efforts, Screwball. Some HUMANS have trouble making food turn out edible and non-toxic.
Who doesn’t like Italian food? The only people I know who don’t eat it is because they can’t for one health reason or another, and even then they still liked it before the complications started.
It sounds like what I’d expect a Chinese food restaurant to be called in Italy. I’d be confused as to whether it was some kind of Italian/Chinese fusion restaurant. 🙂
Well, admittedly, dragons are more associated with China that Italy. But then again, most restauranteurs don’t have twin Dragons as kids, and the Dragons in question are of authentic Italian decent.
Daniel here. There are basically 2 different types of Dragon, the Eastern Style Dragons of Asia which you seem to be talking about tend to be loooong, thin, snake/lizard like creatures with 4 limbs, 2 long whisker things coming off their face along and no wings. There are also the Western/European Dragons which come in a variety of shapes, but typically have 4 legs + 2 wings on their back or 2 back legs + 2 wings which also serve as their front legs. While the Asian Dragons ARE most commonly known for coming from China, Western Dragons are known to come from across Europe, including Brittan, France and Italy.
Considering Jin is a Lion-dog from Asia just like his family, I think it’s fair to say the Twins are Western/European Dragons, though it makes me wonder if there are at least 1 other Dragon hybrid, namely an Asian dragon Hybrid? Or any other locally-themed Hybrids? Blue Heeler dogs, Koalas, Kangaroos & Bunyips in Australia? Kiwibirds in New Zealand? Coyotes, Rattlesnakes, Bear and so on for USA?
AND the only correct and not stupid looking dragons. Anne McCaffrey’s Pernese dragons from her many novels set on Pern. I have the cover of the book All the Weyrs of Pern tattooed on my back. No Western or Asian dragon will ever get that honour.
I understand that there is every reason to feel emotional about your favourite book series, but claiming that that is the “only correct” form of dragon and that every other dragon is “stupid looking” doesn’t exactly make you a lot of friends.
Being unfamiliar with Pern, I did a search for “All the Weyrs of Pern” and got two different cover artworks with two different types of dragon. One has a poorly-posed and awkwardly-positioned dragon (possibly two, the other might also be someone’s projectile weapon) in what looks like a spaceship. The other has a much more majestic-looking dragon on what appears to be a stone pillar rising up from a cloudsea. Both fall under the general classification of “western dragon” that Daniel described. One is the four-legged bewinged variety; the other is in a position that obscures whether it has forelegs or is of the two-legged “wyvern” subtype.
Ooo, ooo, I can answer this…
I did some Google-Fu, found a Wiki page about Anne McCaffrey’s Dragons here;
https://pern.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon
Sounds like they look kinda like Western Dragons, just don’t “behave” the same way. Daniel says he was “speaking generally”, which is why he said there were basically 2 types of Dragon. I think from memory that means he was saying most Dragons fit into those 2 groups, but not all of them. There’s this show I’ve seen on Youtube, “Dragon Booster”, a LOT of different Dragons in that…
The Pernese dragon ancestors were called “fire lizards”, so one assumes that in the absence of artist distortions, they would look like winged lizards. This would account for how humans can relate to a creature big enough to fly with a human and a heavy sack of rock on their back. A mammal type body would be 20 feet tall.
Well : paying back a favor by tasting real italian food , Clementine is still winner in this ^_^
I wonder if, after tasting the food, Clementine won’t say “you know, this is so good I’m still in debt to you”.
Doubt it, but return visits would be free advertising I don’t think she’d mind writing up…
NO. She might think it.
Sudden fear is Larissa coming to put her rotten fish-heads in Clementine’s food ……….
I actually wonder is Liz has any connections with Clementine. Or specifically, if Clementine has ever attended Spots and Stripes. I imagine at the very least she would be a very well known name there.
It has probably been asked, but how many generations is the Romero family from Italy?
It’s just stated that Marco has “Italian Roots”, though one Ask answer had him swearing in Italian. If I had to guess, I’d say at furthest his grandparents were Italian. Though that’s just a guess.
Actually, his parents (Kai and Kaya’s grandparents) still live in Italy 😀
They go and visit every year during summer break ^^
Neat. So Marco was born in Italy? Does he have an accent? Do the twins speak Italian?
For some reason I imagine Marco as having a Brooklyn accent. Maybe it’s the Super Mario Brothers influence…
I guess that means that the twins grew up learning Italian from an early age, and are probably incredibly fluent in the language (because of their interactions with their dad’s parents and other family members in the area). It could be funny to see Kaya call someone some mean Italian names in response to someone calling her uncultured. Cleo and Clementine are probably pretty well educated in multiple languages, and Clemintine probably really likes the Italian language almost as much as she enjoys the cuisine.
Does Mr. Romero have siblings and, by extension, do Kai and Kaya have any cousins? Any of them also Hybrids? Probably not, given that the first other Hybrid the twins met was Benji… It would be interesting to learn and see more about the twins’ extended family.
I also have another question, if the Romeros decided to have more kids (a bit scary, potentially there’d be more Kayas), would the kids be Dragon Hybrids as well or would they be another Hybrid species if they won’t be regular humans?
IF I remember correctly, Robin has said that any new siblings to Kai & Kaya could turn out to be any of the three: fully human, dragon hybrids, or any other hybrids.
I have a feeling that if Mr. Robin were to give the Romero twins younger siblings down the line, they’d be Dragon Hybrids as well like their older siblings. Still, I wonder what is the estimated likelihood for parents like Marco and Sabrina to have more children that are the same Hybrid species as their first two… I have a feeling that starting to understand the cause of Hybrids would involve not only examining samples of the Hybrids’ DNA but that of their parents as well.
Speaking of heredity and genetic likelihood, when Kaya becomes an adult and decides to become a mother, she has the possibility to give birth to fraternal twins like her mother did. There is a known genetic likelihood for twins to run in a family, but it’s passed down maternally and only results in fraternal twins due to said likelihood being the chance to release at least two egg cells as once during menstruation.
I live!! I do enjoy some good pasta
Well technically that’s still Italian, just not very professional.
There’s also the fact that cuisine from other countries get adapted and exaggerated over time when they’re imported to a new country. Spaghetti was never served with heavy sauce like marinara before the recipe was Americanized for instance.
Chicken Tikka Masala. Britain’s favourite Indian Curry Dish.
Possibly based off Butter Chicken, a popular Indian dish but believed to have been invented in it’s current format by a Bangladeshi Chef in Glasgow, Scotland. Probably the first, widely accepted, example of Fusion cuisine.
Clem: “Is it made with real Italians?”
Kaya: “Cleo…what exactly is she expecting here?”
Cleo: “Just make sure Mr. Romero has fava beans and a nice chianti.”
