Ah, yes, the downside to any competitive environment: it’s only good until it’s banned.
In this case, it sounds more like it was completely forgettable. Only now with the Ghost+Digital cards does it have a use (and an obscure one at that), and it’s not going to be banned, but it’s going to rotate out.
Multiple CCG’s have as the default where you can only use the last X expansion sets. It’s so that you have to keep buying new cards if you want to play in a tournament setting. And so that you don’t see the same decks year after year.
The one, which should be banned in Tournaments is the “Probability Hack”. The abilities based on coin flips tends to be either useless or OP, depending on your luck. Changing that into a 100% OP ability-trigger only requires you to pull it from your deck relatively early, then you will walk through near everything.
If anything, “Probability Hack” should have you make 2 coin flips per original coin flip and you get to choose which you want to keep; keep luck involved but effectively half the time you make the choice instead of the coin. As written, though, yea it should definitely be 100% banned in competitive play
…biblically accurate bunny… I have no idea what to say, except profuse praise for your creativity. Well done.
Biblically-accurate bunny is biblical.
Poor boar, you did your best.
It’s not entirely clear to me which card Nora calls barely tournament-legal. I guess it’s the probability hack, which she mentioned three panels earlier, but it could also be the guardian sigil, which Mikey played more recently. The last card Mikey played was the second pair of twins, but it seems odd to call them an artifact, so it’s probably not that.
It’s “Physical Artifact”, probably.
Hmm, yes, if she stresses “artifact”, then that’s what she means. Otherwise it’s uncertain. It would be clearer if we could hear ‘er.
Yeah, but the really overpowered thing here is the Probability Hack. Items and spells with a chance of complete failure has that feature for a reason.
That was rather boorish of Mikey to turn Nora’s boar into sliced ham. He didn’t get a chance to do anything…
Bye, Sir Bacon, you had beautiful green eyes. Nora’s lost her first monster while Mikey is still unscathed, something tells me the unlucky Bunny wants to turn Mikey into a coonskin hat right now. Imagine if those barely legal cards are made illegal… for Mikey, anyone but him could use them in tournaments because of how annoying he is with this combination.
“Biblically-Accurate Bunny…” How is that biblically accurate?! Sometimes, I think people take this meme a little too far. It kind of resembles another monstrous rabbitlike creature, either Wendigomon or Antylamon except with one eye and four ears. What other bunny-based cards (apart from Clue-Eating Rabbit) does Nora have with her? And are they as weird as this one?
If I understand correctly, the boar did exactly what it’s for: It absorbed 500 points of damage on Nora’s behalf.
So Mike’s a rules lawyer,
playing the edge of the game.
Slaved to the new rule book
(Even if they’re never the same)
His ego is mighty and proud
but he doesn’t have poker eyes.
It’s why he keeps them hidden;
the orbs show all his lies.
He has a power heavy trick deck
but no real depth in the soul.
I predict Nora will succeed
and turn that arrogance to coal…
Diolch yn fawr iawn.
I love that last line, burn him just to fan her flames? Poetry indeed.
Reminds me of back when I used to play Magic. Used to run an Avatar of Woe black and white deck. Black was full of ether heavy hitters or disposable small fry that imposed negative effects when killed and mostly used fear. White was largely priests, damage mitigation, ect. The non monsters for black were where where it got kind of stupid though. Full of instant kill cards like Hand of Death and other similar cards. Not going to lie, it was intentionally a REALLY annoying deck to go against.
Black still plays that way, except these days EVERY color has creature removal; Black’s is just cheaper and/or comes with fun rider effects like sapping the opponent’s life total at the same time. Old Black was hilarious, though. Sengir Vampire: a 4/4 flyer when flying creatures were like hen’s teeth. Against most decks, you were putting them on a five turn clock at best.
I also used to run Repentant Vampire in the deck as well. It got pretty hilariously broken really fast especially when running a bunch of throw away zombies that could hand out -1/-1 all over the place. Made it really easy to start rolling and stacking up those +1/+1 on him.
Panel 2: Perhaps add a comma to “time”?
Also, it’s stuff like this that makes me glad I never got into MTG.
Time to play a clue-eating rabbit, or those are limited to the deck she had put together against Amy…? 🤔 🤪
Imagine an entire deck of those… She has enough for that, thanks to Benji!
See, this is why I hated playing card games. I hated rules lawyers and meta-chasers with a passion, and having to purchase new sets because my old deck now was restricted, banned, replaced or rewritten. Sorry. Enough of that crap. Threw them all away.
Why do I feel like Nora’s about to do something…interesting? GO NORA!! 🙂
There’s no valid justification for being a prick. IMO.
